A word of hope for downcast eyes,
burdened by a loss forever ago.
To bless them with numb dreams,
tranquil silence where no scars show.

A world of promises longing to be kept
waits on the other side of a heart's broken faith,
With another child's feathered grave
that now has to bear a name.

The candle that warmed hearts has gone out in the breeze
As the memories that shelter the loved drift away with the autumn leaves
To blanket the heavenbound to rest in their newfound peace
As the hearts left to mourn remain broken and misplaced

The bells now sing their melody
To the newcomer to the afterlife
In hopes of healing the world's wounds
And teaching the newborn angel to fly...

This is something I wrote as a requiem for my best friend, who died four years ago, and for my cousin, who died earlier this year.

I appreciate all comments. I plan to write for as long as my heart grants my pen the gift of flight. For as long as my heart feels, there is cause enough to carry on.
