Sun and Sugar
In his eyes are fireflies,
and I know them all by name;
he brightens my every evening,
and crowns my days the same;
he restores my glass heart,
protecting it in his hands;
he's the embers to my ashes,
even without his kind romance;
his smile is all I ask for,
and his laugh is melodic art;
I can only hope he returns soon,
so no fear holds us apart;
yet never would I pray to God,
if it's not bringing him joy;
only if he wants me as his girl,
will I again call him my boy.

This piece was both interesting and difficult for me to write, as I wrote the first half when I still had a boyfriend, and the second half after being broken up with. It's mostly about still having feelings for someone I can't have. It's one I took awhile to write, simply because I wanted to make it perfect. I'm not sure I can call it perfect, but I do think I can call it heartfelt at the very least. I hope people can perhaps feel more empowered or loved because of this poem, and, if nothing else, enjoy the rhymes I tried to implement for fun. Much love!
