"It Always Seems Impossible Until It Is Done." <br /> Nelson Mandela

You gazed in her eyes what fate would reveal naught

The depths of your soul yearning to capture that which you sought

Her hand in yours as you tumbled through the winds of life

That permanent fixture leading you through wars of strife

Everyday, you could not for a moment resist

The temptation of her sublime pith of which struggled to persist

But alas! The morning sunlight began to blind your cognition

The stars were too entrancing, too captivating to evade your recognition

And the clouds, as they performed to entrance with contortionist dance

The wind drew you in with seductive whispers, with lingering romance

You forgot life, your beau, your true love

She longed for your attention but from you, a mere shove

Thus, as a wave recedes from the shore

Her grasp was harsh but did not implore

And alas! Your grip released without her refuse

Gone that heartthrob, your precognitive muse...

Life did not end, no the months dragged on

Your hand grew cold with hers now withdrawn

Without her guidance and the passion she inspired

Your journey lost meaning, lost direction, lost desire

It was an obsession, the memory of the wind wisping her hair

You were transfixed by the thought of the strands in the air

Like shimmering tendrils calling to you, yearning for your touch

But no! Ironically they receded from your clutch

The memory of her smile was fatal, her call miles away yet always at heart

The echoes resounded in your mind from which you could not come to part

While her words and her touch remained strong recollections

Her face was losing shape and cired you with repentance

And in the way that curtains elegantly swoon

To blow out the candle of light from both sun and moon

From her absence descended darkness on your eyes

You stumbled blindly, branches whipping, rocks tripping like conniving allies

Oh the times you lay crippled in self loathing suffocation

Bereft of her, you remained stranded on path not through life, but to damnation

Because one agonizing breath without her was too much

Because one glance at the world around you made you collapse without her leading clutch

How could one navigate the treacherous toils of the sea

Without a compass steering the sailor clear of his own fallacy?

Ponder it not sailor! For like the seas, life is as frightful

As chaotic and delightful

And her, your compass, not by your side

Why my friend your ship’s capsize is but a matter of time!

And so rise woeful traveler! Rise like the tides

On a moonlit evening bursting with the waves' strides

Find her! For she is the future, she is your hope

On a peak she stands majestically despite the treacherous slope

But to reach her my dear, you have much to climb

The mountain up which will lead you to her divine

But fear it not, for gazing radiantly on the horizon is your salvation

Climb to her and delight in unifying proclamation

Scream her name from the top of the world where  you stand

Having finally reclaimed her empyreal hand….

Aspiration…. my beloved! I've found you again!

The author's comments:

What occupies our minds... especially as adolescents? Dreams perhaps? While we may perceive goals and dreams as intangible figments of imagination, their manifestation and influence on our lives could not be evident. This poems aims to personify Aspiration and the way in which we are so dependent on it and oftentimes lost without it. Enjoy
