As If You Were Always Here

I will never be able to make it up to you.And this I greatly fear.
All the compassion you've shown for me.
The endless days and nights
By the hospital bed you sat.
Ajar to the door you never left me alone.
For all the people I thought knew me best,
they all turned away when they heard the story.
But not you.
When everyone else walked out, you walked in.
The one person I never gave the respect they deserved.
You were there.
And it's as if you always were.
