Sticks and Stones Will Break My Bones, but Words Will Shatter My Soul
Verbal Abuse
-About one in five teens report being victims of emotional abuse
- 80% of teens regard verbal abuse as a serious issue
We aren’t perfect, no one is, and as humans we all make mistakes. But sometimes our mistakes hurt others more than we realize. We’ve been taught from a young age not to listen to what others think of us, but that only helps to lessen the sting. In reality, what others say about us sometimes helps define what we believe about ourselves. And not only do our words affect the person we are speaking of, they also affect the people around us. When we call people “retard” or “gay” that sends out the message that being those things is ‘bad’ , and even if you do believe it is ‘bad’ that doesn’t give you the right to bring somebody else down. So, before you talk about someone else.
