Scientology vs. Christianity

Have you ever been angry or felt intense emotions towards someone or something in a negative way? Scientologists would then explain to you that these emotions are caused by alien spirits that earlier took over our bodies. Unlike Christianity, Scientology is based on the ideas of L. Ron Hubbard. Both Christianity and Scientology are extremely different and some may argue that they have some similarities but in my opinion, they couldn’t be more contrasting. The two religions origins of the universe, moralities of the religion, worldviews, views of afterlife, and overall purposes of life set them apart and make each religion its own.

Based on L. Ron Hubbard’s ideas, the origin of Scientology’s religion has no proof. The religion states that alien spirits took over our human bodies and they are the reason for the intense emotions that we have, such as, fear, anxiety, and stress. Christianity originated and stretched from the teaching of Jesus Christ who is the Son of God. Unlike Scientology, Christianity possesses proof of many sorts. The origin of Scientology and Christianity differentiate from each other almost entirely. I believe that people are quick to become open to Scientology because it makes sense to them and L.

Ron. Hubbard told everyone what they want to hear. For example, L. Ron Hubbard states, “Scientology does not teach you. It only reminds you. For the information was yours in the first place.”

The morality of Christianity and Scientology is another artifact that sets the two apart. Scientologists believe that there are two major topics in life, the first being good, and the second being evil. Along with good, Scientologists strive to live a life full of happiness. Christianity, however, states that we must trust and believe that we are all perfectly made in the image of God. Like Scientology, Christians believe that there is good and evil in the world, but, good and evil aren’t the only two major topics of life. Christians believe that men and women can be evil but with accepting Jesus into their hearts, they are able to be made new and the sin is washed away.

The way Christians and Scientologists view the world is also completely different.

Christians believe that God is the sovereign Lord of all. Scientologists, however, believe in an individualistic worldview and view the world individually but soon after, they can begin identifying with their family, tribe, or nation. Christians are taught to “love your neighbour as yourself”, since birth, unlike Scientologists who seem to live a more reserved and self absorbed life of their own. Scientologists are also allowed to reach their own conclusions about a higher power, whether it be God or something else they choose to put their trust in. In my opinion, Scientology is a selfish religion because your whole

life you are working about yourself and thinking about yourself. Whereas Christianity teaches you to love the people around you and find community.

Afterlife is a controversial and argued topic throughout all of the religions. Christian’s believe that if we accept Jesus into our hearts then we will spend eternal life

in heaven with God because he was crucified for our sins so that we may live forever with him. In Scientology, they choose not to focus on their physical selves afterlife, instead, they focus on their spirits while they are on earth. I believe that it would be very hard to not think about where I am going after I die. Even as a Christian I catch myself thinking about heaven and how I am so grateful to have found Jesus. Without knowing about heaven I would be extremely lost and scared about my future.

Lastly, we will compare the two purposes of life now. For example, what are the two religions trying to achieve/live for. Christians purpose of life now is to live their life representing God and following the word of the Bible so that we may live eternal with God in heaven. God has created us in his image and we will live for Him and praise Him in everything that we do. Scientologists' purpose of life now is to rid themselves of the alien caused emotions that are taking over their bodies. Scientology views these emotions as evil because they don’t feel normal and they refuse to believe that these emotions occur from themselves. Scientologists view life as “a game in which there is no need to lose.”

In conclusion, religion is an individual choice and anyone is free to their own opinions and beliefs. However, I strongly suggest researching any religion before

choosing to believe in it and make sure you find the proof that you need in order to commit your life to it. Scientology and Christianity differentiate in countless ways and so do most of the other religions. Things such as, origins of the universe, moralities of the religion, worldviews, views of afterlife, and overall purposes of life, make each and every religion unique and help form the body of each religion. In my life, I have been blessed to

have been born into a Christian home and I am ready to pour my knowledge into other people.
