Getting Better Desks

If I had an opportunity to change the school desks in every school across America, I would because they would improve the focus and attention of every student, help correct bad posture and hunched shoulders, and make school more enjoyable to be at.

Many school desks in every school across the country are the exact same. This is a major problem for bigger people who struggle getting into the desk and finding a comfortable position to sit and listen. If we changed the size of desks to help accommodate different sized people then there wouldn't be as much moving in the classroom causing less distractions and more focused time listening to the teacher and learning the assignment.

Students also are faced with big posture problems, many of which result in them needing some sort of physical therapy or chiropractor to help mitigate and correct their problem. The biggest of these being slouched shoulders or uneven shoulders. This is a major problem among students because for seven hours a day, five days a week they are slouched over working on their computers or writing on paper. That's a lot of hours to be in one position especially, if they are too tall for the desk and have to do extra slouching to reach the right height and get the work done.

Furthermore, changing the desks in school would make everything about learning seem more enjoyable and exciting, because you would no longer have to arrive tired and sit at an extremely uncomfortable desk for the rest of the day. Instead you would be able to sit in a comfortable chair with padding as well as an adjustable height for the desk depending on how tall you are, you could raise or lower it. This would allow every student the opportunity to get the desk better suited for them and their learning in the class.

One possibility of having better desks would be they could come with a standing up option so that you could learn standing instead of sitting. Having the option to stand up could help many students who have trouble sitting. This option has been brought up before for schools with lots of research being done with the benefits about standing up. Some of these benefits include longer focused time because sitting for too long causes the body to become sluggish. The human brain also gets less oxygen while sitting which causes higher chances of cloudiness and loss of thought while learning.

Having better school attendance would greatly improve every aspect of school, allowing students to learn longer, gain more information in a shorter amount of time and make school more enjoyable.
