There are many different genres of music, but Hip-Hop is one of the most popular genres that is listened to around the world and is my personal favorite genre of music. There have been many album drops this decade from multiple artists with some of these albums being classics for years to come and has been a pretty good start to this decade for hip-hop.

2020 was the start of a brand new decade and was a crazy year due to the lockdown. Music was kind of slow this year due to it, but there were still some phenomenal pieces of work. “Alfredo” a collaboration project by Freddie Gibbs and one of the greatest modern day music producers The Alchemist, this album has already solidified itself as a classic album and was nominated for Rap Album of the Year at and the Grammys  with some really good production by The Alchemist and Freddie matching the energy and delivering a phenomenal performance. 2020 also saw the return of 90’s legend and one of the greatest Hip-Hop artists of all time Nas with his album “King’s Disease” with production by Hit-Boy many people considered Nas out of touch and was a time capsule of the 90’s, but this record proved that he still has it and that he can still stand with this new era of Hip-Hop he ultimately won Rap Album of the Year at the Grammys.

2021 was the start of more recognizable names starting to drop music such as J Cole with “The Off-Season” which was far from his best work, but it was still a very enjoyable listen. Later in the year Kanye West released his album “Donda” after many listening experiences hosted with Visuals and songs being previewed and many missed and false release dates it finally released. Iit was a very phenomenal album it had many aspects of gospel music mixed with Hip-Hop with many features that absolutely nailed it out of the park, the biggest complaint it had received was that there was too much and I’d have to agree, the album released with 27 songs totaling up to an hour and 48 minutes and then later a deluxe version with 32 songs totaling up to 2 hours and 11 minutes.

2022 had many good projects released in that year. Nas ended the “King's Disease” trilogy with the best one topping the other two as well as Drake releasing his collab album with 21 Savage called “Her Loss”. There were 2 standouts from 2022 though the biggest one being the return of Kendrick Lamar from his 5 year hiatus with the release of his album called “Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers” this album was a very personal album for him and had a lot of hype due to the 5 year long wait from him and the album was received with mixed reviews. Another very popular release was Metro Boomin’s album called “Heroes & Villains” the album was received with many positive reviews with really phenomenal features and some really simplistic and very unique productions sprinkled throughout the whole album.

2023 was a slow year for Hip-Hop with only a few popular drops. The biggest drop of last year was Travis Scott’s “Utopia” which was his return after 5 years since his last album, this album had some very great features from Drake, Westside Gunn, Playboi Carti, and many more amazing artists with some very unique production which he heavily contributed to. Even though 2024 is not even half way through it is already showing promise to be the best year this decade so far. It started off with 21 Savage’s “American Dream” with his most personal album of his life and some production from Metro Boomin. The next biggest drop was Kanye West’s collaboration with Ty Dolla $ign titled “Vultures” it had many unique productions where there was almost no tracks that sounded like another Ty Dolla $ign giving it his all with his performances throughout the album, this album was a very large success with it going number 1 on the Top 100 Billboard charts and staying there for multiple weeks with one of the songs going #1 , with this success from this collaboration the duo has already promised another 2 Volumes. Another album release that has been released this year is another collaboration project by Metro Bommin and Future with many secret features and production with the duo promising another album in april.

As time goes on the genre is going to grow and evolve and with this there will be a higher bar set for what will be considered amazing and with only 4 years into this decade it is already looking promising as being one of the best decades for the genre.
