The rap culture of the 90’s is still prevalent in today’s culture. I believe the vast majority of people in my generation underestimate how significant the 90’s were to the rap genre. The rap artists of the 90’s revolutionized the culture of rap and made it what it has become today. They did this by expanding from the cookie-cutter build of typical rap songs of the time to push the limits of music and the genre. In my personal life, my friends and I embrace 90’s rap lovingly. Artists like NAV, the Wu Tang Clan, Notorious B.I.G, Tupac, and Ice Cube, are some of the most enjoyable to listen to.

Since the 90’s revolution of rap, the music has only declined in quality. The songs of that time and the songs of today can barely be compared. The music before the decline was real and rich. The songs told powerful stories through their lyrics. In my opinion, rap peaked and reached its pinnacle during the 90’s and required immense amounts of talent compared to the rap and Hip-Hop that is played today. There were no voice toners or computerized background tracks, every sound was real. Every note, word, and frequency was authentic, and the quality in the production showed. The only controversy with the 90's rap industry were the ongoing gang disputes. Occasionally, artists called out other gangs and artists in their music to spark conflict with gangs for either personal or advertising reasons. It would lead to many people becoming targets for preemptive ambushes, stabbings, shootings, or any other form of violence. Sadly, Tupac and the Notorious B.I.G., both legends who are considered to be some of the greatest of all time, fell victim to the gang conflicts and the cross violence.

Although they died young, they were ahead of their time, such that the world still reveres them and their music as well as other talented 90’s rap artists of the time. Those who adore the rhythm and poetry testify that it invites a lively feeling. Others may go further and describe it to be the best music of all time. To concur, it is my personal belief that there will never be a Hip Hop artist or modern rap artist that will ever live up to the fame and success of the legendary Tupac or Notorious B.I.G. Their reign over rap culture was and is timeless.
