Oh, I’ll tell you why…

Curling into a ball, she sighed heavily, feeling the warmth of the open window. The streets had been empty for days, only cats and the occasional drunk man who came staggering by for a brief visit. It was lonely and bone chilling, out on the streets.
Never sun.
Never blue skies.
Never a soft breeze that just tickled your fur.
But instead there were always clouds.
Always rain.
Always hail that made you cry out as it broke a bone. But that’s what houses and families are for, right? But… She, the lonely dog in the alleyway, didn't have a home nor a hug from loving people. But finally, one day, a big white van screeched to a halt in front of her. She thought for just a short-lived moment, that it was the time she had been dreaming about for years. But big feet covered in black rubber demolished and absolutely shattered the thought, instantaneously. A thin wire wrapped itself around her neck, choking and pulling and strangling and suffocating her abruptly.
The next thing she saw, were the white gloves and a sharp needle that seemed to smile.
Closing her eyes to the sweet lullaby of death, she thought about that hug, that family and that home.

Why create a life when you can save one?

Have you ever looked at the numbers? Ever wonder, “Aw heck nah” when you do? Ha, well I just did. Literally, eight seconds ago, and I’m completely shocked!
2% of stray cats go back to their owners versus 70% of cats that are euthanized* at shelters.
15% of stray dogs go back to their owners versus 60% of dogs that are euthanized at shelters.
This world is driving me insane-- I don’t know whether it is because we are so ready, so eager to just wipe lives from the face of the earth just because us (humans) can’t keep up with them or because we’re only killing and creating for our entertainment.
Yes, creating.
Breeding is probably the most clear-cut and noticeable factor in the problem of killing animals today. We breed pets because we want the perfect dog. Either it’s because you just want a certain kind of pet, or you’re looking into a beauty competition for your darling dearests. But, UPDATE PEOPLE, we’re slaughtering pets day after day because you cherry pickers aren’t satisfied with the intelligent mutt you have.
I don’t understand people like that.
It has also been scientifically proven that mutts are more intelligent than purebreds.
“Purebreds are just ancestors mating with ancestors!” Says Edward Rice, a well known scientist. “This, of course, leads to incest and mutations a.k.a. hiccups in genes. If you want to look at 6 toes and 3 tails, then go ahead, but a variety in gene transfers is a way to create a more original and perceptive pet.” There are several mutts that are unwanted by many but crave a home and big arms that just covet a hug.
Be those arms.
Otherwise, the eradication of thousands of lives will swirl among the streets without us helping.

Within an hour, she was dead. They found a dog by the side of the road, withering ,
without water, and bam. Another lifeless body, deprived of a second chance. Although nature has a cycle as my brother famously said to me when I was two, “animals are BORN, they LIVE, and they DIE so get used to it!” But, when dying by the point of a smirking syringe, I don’t think that counts! The circle of life… Slaughter houses and kill shelters included? I, the fourteen animal activist, see that another problem in this universe is that many people do not spay or neuter their pets.
This can lead to what all animals do.
Makin’ babies.
While I’m sitting here ranting about the situations of this earth, look at your pet and think if you’ve done one of the two selections; A. Spay or B. Neuter.
If you do not have a pet, then you had to read all this for nothing and might wonder what I’m talking about. When “fixing” a female, you are removing the ovaries and/or uterus so the possible mother can no longer ovulate. For males, they castrate (cutting off the sperm supply).
So there you have it. Yucky.
You may think that there will be risks in this procedure, and yes. There are bad things that may occur. “Five Years into Private Practice, Many of My Canine Patients Began to Develop Endocrine Imbalances and Related Diseases” says Dr. Becker, a noted vet. She thinks that there are life threatening things that might transpire because of early desexualizing.
I know that I have been saying for people to stop killing pets, but I think that the main thing I really should be focusing on is stop breeding your dogs or cats. Also, don’t adopt if you think you aren’t ready or mature and responsible for one. Otherwise, you can be right by the window next to your dog and the “mans best friend” takes a walk, ending up to become preggers and giving birth to 13 more unwanted pets.
Be ready! Be reliable! Be resourceful.
You know what to do, I know. But ask yourself whether or not you’re brave enough to do it.
What I’m about to tell you is true; a story that took place because a shelter decided just this one dog wasn’t fit for fixing. My dog was a mother at the age of 12- 13 months, but taken away from her puppies an hour later. Then, if that wasn’t enough, she was next on their hit list. After we saved her from the needle that seemed to grin and laugh, she still reacted to us whimpering. She’d call out for her puppies with a small bark, then faded into a cry of desperation and heartbreak.
How would you feel if your child had been stripped from your arms and killed?
Don’t lie to yourself.
You know it’s wrong. There are only one out of ten dogs will find a permanent home! And also, homeless animals outnumber homeless people by 5 to 1. Many people focus on: “OH SAVE THE HUMANS!” We have an issue about pets that we like to call, overpopulating, but hello! Have you SEEN the amount of people in the world? There are over 7 billion, increasing by the minute, oh sorry… Second.
Are we going to start kill shelters for humans?
Are we going to start the Hunger Games?
Are we going to go back to executing everyone for just stealing a pinch of bread?
HA, nope. We sit back and watch, but are letting two billion dollars slip from our pockets to kill all these homeless animals. Okay, do me a favor. If you have a dog (or cat, but I’m focusing on dogs here)…
Neuter him.
Spay her.
Don’t adopt specially bred dogs.
The thing is that all dogs are amazing. No matter how broken we seem, no matter how palaverous your tears become or how redundant your heartache seems, just one look from a dog can fix it all. They seem to see the best, sweeping away the shatter and crap in your life.
With just one kiss.
One snuggle.
One belly rub.
If they’re so good at mending us without a shadow of a doubt, why can’t we mend them back?
