Why does poetry matter?
To me, poetry doesn't matter—it is an assignment I have to do in class so I can uphold my good GPA and grades.
I do wish it could mean more, but I think I have not reached a maturity level in my life to establish a deeper meaning behind poetry.
But to others, poetry matters because it can be an escape from reality. A spaceship, ready to leave the ground and explore the outside world.
Maybe to others, poetry matters because it is a good way to express vulnerability and private things going on in their life.
Maybe to others poetry matters because it is a way for people to find joy in their life.
Maybe to others poetry doesn't matter, and to these people it is the same boring task I think of it as.
Regardless of what people think of why poetry matters, the answer is going to be different from person to person; highlighting the beauty of me being different from you and everyone else in our society.
