Solved Love

New York City 6:00 a.m.

“Beep, Beep, Beep!”

I reach my hand over my bed onto my nightstand and tap my alarm clock. I throw my hand in the air over my head and stretch my legs. Pointing my toes to the ground and with a deep breath, I sit up. I check my phone and see a surprising text message from head Cheif Carlos at the station.

Chief Carlos

Hey Alicia! When you

arrive at the station today

please come to my office.

Ok Sounds good

As soon as I am finished getting ready, I exit my apartment complex. I am on the first floor, so I get out of there pretty quickly. When I step outside, the doors onto the sidewalk a cold breeze blows by me, sending chills down my spine. I wave for a Taxi. One stops, and I hop in and look at the driver. It is a man, with brown eyes, dark brown hair, and a very noticeable tattoo on his arm. It’s an image of two knives, crossing each other, with writing that says “Don't Cross Me”. I thought it was peculiar. I put my seat belt on and told him to take me to 47th Street. On our way to the station, it was very quiet, but then…

“Wait, isn't 47th Street the NYPD?” Taxi Driver asks.

“Yes, it is. I am one of the head detectives,” I say proudly.

Potter 2

His whole mood changes he begins to look pale and starts looking in the mirror to look at me. Every time I caught him looking at me, he quickly looked down at the road. I grew a little suspicious of him throughout the car ride over to the police department. We finally got to 47th Street, were he dropped me off in front of the station. When I got out of the car, I walked over to the passenger seat window, so I could pay him for the ride.

“Don’t worry about it. This one is on me,” and he drove away.

I am a little weirded out by what just happened. He was acting very odd the whole drive here and then gave me a free ride. Something doesn't seem right about that. I brush it off for now. When I enter the New York Police Department and head straight to my chief's office. I knock before I enter.

“Come in.” The Chief says reassuringly.

As I walk in, I notice Garrett Iverson sitting in a chair, right across from the Chief. Garret Iverson is a know-it-all who thinks he is always right and everybody else is wrong. Garret and I have had a rivalry for many years now. We are always competing to be the best detective on the force. Two years ago we were both in the running for the “Criminal Investigation Award”,  which is a very big deal. Garret and I were working on a case that involved 2 children getting kidnapped in Times Square, on New Year's Eve. We were working on this case for three weeks straight. We were exhausted. We got into an argument in our office that we share. I was going through the stacks of papers, and he just went through and he took offense. Garrett accused me of not trusting his judgment, but I was just backtracking just in case we missed something. Turns out we did. While I was reading the files, I found something that we never looked into. There was an alley that a witness saw two little girls walking toward before they went missing. I told Garrett I found something, and I was going to check out the alley where they supposedly were. Iverson didn’t want to join me because he claimed it was just going to be a dead end like always. When I showed up at the alley, I began looking around. As I inch deeper and deeper down the alleyway there is a temperature change, it is getting very dark and you would almost think it is a night out. I finally see something that catches my attention, and there is a door with a source of light sneaking out from the crack in the door. I move slowly toward the opening and that's when I hear a little girl’s voice.

“Please let us go, and we won't tell anybody what you have done!”

I burst through the door and started looking around. I see one large man about 6ft, with hair black as night, and brown eyes.

“Freeze, put your hands where I can see them, lay down on your stomach, and put your hands behind your back!” I demand, aiming my gun in his direction.

The man freezes and does as he is told. I grabbed my handcuffs and locked his hands up.

Then I see Garrett rushing in, grabbing the children, and walking outside with them. He doesn’t say a word to me just comes in and takes the children outside into the alleyway. I make the man stand up and proceed outside. Garrett is on the street talking to the New York City News. Garrett Iverson told everyone that he saved those kids, did it all by himself, and that I was the one who showed up late and just helped him watch the man while he brought the children to safety. I tried telling everyone the truth, but everybody thought I was just jealous that he solved the case and I didn’t. Garrett ended up winning the Criminal Investigation Award. The head chief announced to the whole NYPD that Garrett Iverson won the award for his hard work solving one of the biggest cases solo. I was very overwhelmed, angry, disappointed, and discouraged. I tried to talk to Garrett about not giving me the credit that I clearly deserved but he denied lying and knowing what I was talking about. I finally gave up because I knew he was not going to give up all the praise he was getting from soving the case. I went to the chief’s office and requested to work alone from now on. The chief accepted the request and ever since then Garrett Iverson and I, have been in a rivalry. We can't be in the same room without making snarky comments to each other or giving the other person a hard time. When I saw Garrett in the chief’s office it changed my good mood to a bad mood very quickly.

The chief picked up on us not being fond of each other after our last case working together. I stop in the doorway and am just staring at Iverson with a face becoming more angrier by the moment.

“Sarah, please come join us.” He directed me to the seat beside Garrett.

I begin walking into the office, closing the door behind me. I take the seat beside Garrett and am trying just to focus on Chief Carlos.

“As you guys know there is a homicide case that is probably the biggest case we have had in the past 15 years. I need the best detectives on it and you two are the first people that I thought of,” Chief Carlos says eagerly.

Garret and I instantly knew where he was going with this meeting. We both look at each other and then back at the Chief.

“No!” we both say instantaneously.

“ Now it's not an option, you both are going to be partners again whether you like it or not.” says the chief demanding.

The Chief hands us everything he has on the case, and we head up to our office. We both enter our office, head straight to different sides of the room and just stare at each other.

“So… want to get started?” Iverson asks calmly.

I am outraged that he thinks that we can just ignore the big elephant in the room.

“Want to get started? Really that's all you have to say right now?” I yell.

“Sarah, lets forget about what happened in the past and move on. We are never going to be able to solve this case if we both have a hatred toward eachother,” Garret says.

I get up from my desk and start yelling walking straight to him pointing my finger, waving my hands in the air.

“Garrett you took credit for something you did not do! You lied and didn’t give me any commendation for what I did, what I solved, not you!” I aggressively say.

I am now in front of Garrett Iverson, so close that we can feel each others warm breath, breathing on each other. My breath is fast. I am out of words to say. Iverson is looking down at me, but something is different he seems sorry, he looks like he knows that he shouldnt have done what he did.

“I’m so sorry, Sarah. I know you should have gotten you all the credit. I don’t deserve the award, and I don’t deserve you…” Garrett blurts out

“Dont deserve me?” I say with confusion

Garrett and I lock eyes and are just staring at each other. I’m waiting for him to answer my question but he just looking at me.

“Garrett what do you…” I try to ask again.

But Garret grabs me by the waist, pulling me closer to him and kisses me. I kiss him back. I feel something when I am kissing him it feels almost like there was a shock moving threw my lips, which has never happened before. I push him away. We were both looking at each other but before he could say anything I sprint out of the room.
