Summary:

Not the average rookie…

What would you do if not everything is what it seems? Mark Rogers seems like the average blockhead. He’s an athlete, he throws a ball at the wall to train to be a pitcher for the Major Leagues, and he’s barely slipping by at school. Sound familiar?

Then one day, his whole world turns upside down. He finds out that his dad’s not really his dad, but his real dad is actually Alex Rushing, a pitcher for the White Sox. While facing this mind-boggling idea, he watches one of his father’s games. Suddenly, Alex Rushing gets hit in the head with a 103 mph fastball. After 2 months in the hospital, he passes away. After this, Mark is determined to live up to his father’s legacy and to make him proud.

2 years later, he gets his drivers license and right away, he goes to the gym to sign up for a pitching clinic and slowly kills himself from the lack of sleep during the next 3 years. Mark tries out for the White Sox and even though he was the best pitcher there, the manager, Ozzie Guillen, tells the Cubs about Mark and they accept him as a member of the team. During the 1st spring training game, he performs some amazing feats and earns some fame. He also figured out that the media is just plain annoying.

During his rookie year, he helps save a life while getting his saved himself, saw a brain dead moron, and also experienced love.
