Track Spikes
The entire track team all have different spikes. Zach’s spikes are as black as the track, black like his hair. For me, my spikes are white and bright. The shiny spikes are like teeth, fall out constantly. Tyler’s spikes are red, lamborghini red. He blinds runners running by. Joel's spikes are a slippery gold like the baton sliding from hand to hand. And Matt, who has the crazy spikes, has neon like highlighter.
But Coaches spike, my coaches spike, permanent on his leg, like hearts in all of us and drives us because it's imprinted in all of us. Sweet to imagine before you race, heart pound out of your chest, it is warm and the smell of the starter gun fill the air, is the smell when your stomach drops and you know that is time to run, and you get the baton and fly, the smoke slithering through the air and the crowd screaming. The screaming, the smoke, and Coaches spike tatto that drive the team like the lamborghini.
