The Wave
The sun was out and shining bright, it was almost like the sun was smiling down at me, almost blinding me. It was so hot out, it felt like I was dripping a pool of sweat. The waves were usually calm around this time in the morning. It was so peaceful out. Not a lot of people were out walking around on the dock making a lot of noise.
I’m in Destin, Florida. My family and I, along with our friends, are on a vacation here for a week. This trip should be lots of fun if my sisters will stay out of trouble and not fight all the time.
“I hate you,” said Iciss running around the hotel like a crazy person.
“I hate you too, I wish you never existed,” replied Arrion rudely.
“Go die in a hole.”
“Do you two ever stop fighting? You’re so annoying,” I said.
“MOM!” Arrion yelled.
Here we go, they’re always fighting everywhere we go at any time. It always seems like they are about to start the World War all over again. They always say stuff that they don’t mean and end up getting their feelings hurt. Then they get to the punching and hitting, acting like maniacs.
“Will you two just shut up for once and be nice. No one wants to hear all of that, now go get dressed or you won’t be going anywhere!” mom said.
I have a twin sister, Iciss. We are nothing alike. She looks 3 feet taller than me and has pretty hazel eyes that sometimes change color, along with really curly brown hair that’s a little bit past her shoulders. My hair is really long and brown with blonde in it from being dyed. I have a darker skin complexion than she does, and we don’t like any of the same things at all. I also have a younger sister, Arrion. She’s taller than me and I find that annoying. She has really long brown hair that she always wears in a braid. Her hair almost looks sun kissed from being out in the sun all the time. Arrion loves basketball and she is a tomboy, so she is a lot different from Iciss and I. She and I have about the same skin complexion, and people always think that she and I are twins instead of Iciss and I. Arrion is the devil and I find her very annoying and mean. We call her the snitch of the family because she will tell on you over everything. Arrion is only 2 years younger than me and her and Iciss fight 24/7. I always think they’re about to kill each other but they end up working it out at the end.
Today we are supposed to be walking around. Outside of our hotel are a lot of different unique shops and restaurants. There is also a boat that takes people staying at our hotel, including us, to a private beach. I love the beach, the sound of the waves crashing against the shore is so peaceful and I love to tan, until I get a sunburn. We’re supposed to be going to the beach almost every day this week, which is good.
“Ugh, I don’t know what to wear,” I said in an annoyed tone, looking down at my suitcase.
I feel like a lot of girls struggle with this problem because we never know what to wear. It can be really frustrating sometimes and my mom never makes it any better by saying I have a million clothes when I feel like I have none.
“You basically packed your whole room and besides we’re in Florida just throw on a tank top and shorts,” Iciss said.
“Thanks, that really helps,” I said.
Iciss just gave me the death stare. I just rolled me eyes and walked away, finally deciding what to wear.
“Breakfast is ready!” said Marla, one of our really good friends that came along on the trip. I could smell the maple bacon all the way in my room and the pancakes. I was starving and ready to eat.
“Are you girls ready for a fun day?” mom said.
“Yep,” we all replied.
After we got done with breakfast and everyone was finished getting dressed we were all ready to go. I was so excited to go to the beach. This is my first time in Florida and I’ve never been to the beach with an ocean, and it’s nothing like the Indiana Dunes. Where I’m from, Indiana, there’s just some lakes and a lot of fields, nothing really special, and I think Indiana is pretty boring if you ask me.
We finally arrived to the beach. Everyone jumped out of the car with excitement. We were going to be here all day.
“Make sure that everyone puts on sunscreen before doing anything! We don’t want to leave here looking like lobsters.” said mom. After I put on my sunscreen as I was told to do so, I laid out my towel and tanned for a little bit.
“Will you go in the water with me pleaseee?” begged Arrion.
“I’m tanning go ask someone else.”
“No one else wants to go with me.”
“Well that’s not my problem, maybe later.” I said. Arrion groaned and finally walked away.
About an hour passed and I was starting to get really hot from laying out so I got up and started walking towards the water. I put my frizzy curly hair into a bun and just stared at the gorgeous view right in front of me. I saw a boogie board in the water so I started walking to it. As I stepped in the water I got the chills. The water was a little cold, making me get goose bumps on my arms. I suddenly found myself underneath the water trying to get used to it. I took the boogie board and laid on it as the waves were passing underneath me.
I saw the waves getting a little bit bigger but I didn’t think it was that big of a deal. I saw one really huge wave from a far distance but I thought it wasn’t coming towards me so I just continued to lay above the cold water. I fell off the boogie board and started laughing along with my sisters who were still on shore. I got back on and tried to swim underneath the big waves. Then I turned back towards the shore looking at everyone. There weren’t a lot of people in the water where I was.
“Sanieh watch out!”
What?”
“I said watch out, move out of the way!” Then I saw a huge wave approaching me, as the wind was getting stronger. I knew this wasn’t going to turn out well and I tried to swim away but the next thing I knew it was pitch black. I was holding my breath not really sure of what was happening. I was getting caught with the wave, getting whipped around in different directions. I was starting to get really scared. I ended up back on shore, coughing while coming out of the water. I got a lot of water up my nose, which wasn’t a great feeling.
“Are you okay? You need to be much careful next time! You had me worried to death!” mom said.
“I’m fine mom,” I replied.
“You need to stay out of the water for a little bit and don’t scare me like that, you hear me?”
“Yeah, yeah.”
We all ended up going back to the hotel and got ice cream on our way home. I got cookies n’ cream, one of my favorites. Once we were back at the hotel we all took showers and got ready for bed.
“Goodnight everyone!” Marla and my mom both said.
“Goodnight,” all 4 of us replied. That was quite an eventful and interesting day and I learned my lesson. Hopefully next time I won’t get swept by some enormous wave.
