Eyelash Extensions Review
During the two hour-long application process, the stylist had to reassure me that my natural lashes wouldn’t suffer from the extensions I was getting. After about the seventh time she reassured me, I was finally able to relax. However, the application process was brutal. It wasn’t a painful experience, but the glue constantly made my eyes itch and it was VERY uncomfortable. After the two painful hours were up, my stylist told me to look in the mirror. I was amazed at the transformation that had occurred in that short time. I saw the effect: my new long and luscious lashes did not only change my eyes, but seemed to change my whole face. However, that beauty only lasted for about three days. Were the $80, itchy eyes, sleepless nights, and 3 days of no sweating or showering worth the 3 days of beauty? No, beauty is not worth the pain, as many women tend to say.
These eyelash extensions are not only high maintenance, but they also have many restrictions. Girls with these extensions can not use any oil-based products on their face. This means no moisturizer, foundation, or eyeliner. It’s just so ironic to me. Girls who are into makeup, skincare, and beauty products are the ones who would naturally gravitate towards expensive and high-maintenance eyelashes. By creating a product that cannot survive oils, manufacturers are throwing away many potential clients. I was one of those clients. After all, a girl does need her eyeliner.
My main issue with the lashes, finally, was the fact that after 2 weeks of wearing them, they managed to completely destroy my natural eyelashes. I still remember the 10 minutes of the eye torture I endured while getting the pests removed. After getting the eyelashes removed, I thought to myself: yes freedom. I was more than livid when I looked in the mirror. My natural eyelashes all fell off! Fortunately, after taking Biotin vitamins and using eyelash growth conditioner, my eyelashes were able to return to a healthy state just after a week, but that one week was neverending.
For those of you contemplating on trying this beauty trend, my advice for you would be to stay away. For the 2 weeks that I had these eyelash extensions, my life completely revolved around them. My friends made fun of my handy dandy eyelash brush that I had to carry around and use about 10 times a day. If I sweated even just the tiniest bit I’d have to wash them with anti-bacterial, hypoallergenic hand soap. They look good, for about 3 days, and for that ephemeral beauty you have to alter your life, which is doomed to revolve around the extensions.
