My Ears Are Still Ringing

“BEEP, BEEP, BEEP” there goes the fire alarm and the same with the hearing in my right ear. It was a gray and depressing afternoon with everyone in my school prepared to leave and relax on their Thanksgiving break. I myself felt the same way until 5th period came around the corner. Almost every classroom was pitch black inside due to people watching movies and having parties in there. Since our class has two periods we did classwork in fifth period and had a party in sixth period.

But today something went wrong. While our teacher was teaching his lecture, he told us we might have a fire drill today but none of us were paying attention because we were all just chatting and playing on our phones. Since I was sitting in the back of the class, all my friends sat in the back with me, but where I sat I was close to the fire alarm and I mean extremely close. Our class was more louder than a Drake concert and I say this because one of our vice principals Mr. Perez walked in our classroom and told us that he could hear us all the way from the cafeteria. That was crazy because we were upstairs far in the back so we didn’t believe him.

After around fifteen minutes, we started to calm down and do our work but then it striked. Since the fire alarm is extremely close to my right ear, if it goes off, it will be super loud. Just as I was about to finish the last sentence of my essay, all of the sudden I heard “BEEP, BEEP, BEEP”.

I screamed in agony, louder than someone who dropped their brand new phone in a river. Everyone started to laugh including my friends so I just went along with them just so I can save myself from embarrassment but the more I laughed, the more I realized that I couldn’t hear anything in my right ear. My teacher asked me if I was okay but I lied and said that I did it on purpose. After we walked into the field, the sky turned bright blue like a smurf as we waited for the okay to walk back to our classroom. Everyone in my class was asking me if I was okay and I always responded saying yes even though I wasn’t.

After we walked back to our classroom, the bell had rung and my classmates went outside for their break except for me due to the pain just getting worse and worse. After sixth period ended and my mom picked me up, I told her that my right ear was messed up to which she replied “Do you need to go to the ER?”. I nodded my head and we headed to the ER. At this point I was afraid that my right ear would never be able to hear again but luckily I was wrong. This moment still scares me to this day and my right ear was affected by causing me a lot of headaches and being able to hear less than usual. This incident has made me have a fear of fire drills and fire alarms because I am worried that it will make my hearing even worse or even permanently make me deaf.

This auto-I narrative is about the time when my right ear got messed up from a excruciating sound from the fire alarm.
