Whoops
It was May 3rd, 2015. It was a normal, simple, routine day. I came home from the track, did my homework, did my chores, talked to my friends and then when it got to be ten o’clock, I retired to my bed so I could catch up on some sleep that would get me through the next day.
I made my way up the stairs and got into my bed as soon I as I turned on my alarm for the next morning. The fluffy comforter surrounded me as I felt my body, as well as my eyes, become very heavy and I drifted off into a deep sleep. It never takes long for me.
Remembering dreams is always a difficult task, yet I always seem to remember EVERYTHING from almost all of my dreams when I wake up. This seems to be because of my consistent sleep schedule that gives me precisely ten hours of sleep every night. However, when I woke up on May 4th, I did not remember my dream, and let me tell you why.
I woke up and glanced at the clock. I was not awoken by sound of an ear-aching alarm this time. I glanced at the rainbow numbers on my childish clock, they read 3:31pm. I jumped out of bed, grabbed my phone and ran outside. The sun was shining and the birds were chirping. It was definitely afternoon. I called my mother.
“Hello?” answered a voice after a few rings.
“Mom. What’s today’s date?” I asked, in a rushed tone.
“The 4th of May. Why?”
“OH NO. NO NO NO NO NO” I screamed.
“Why? And why are you calling me? Aren’t you at DJ’s house?”
“Mom, I’m so sorry. I just woke up.”
“It’s 3:30pm. What do you mean you just woke up?” she giggled a little while saying that.
“I slept through school, Mom. By accident.”
“Whoops. Well, see you when I get home.” she briefly stated, still laughing at me.
She quickly hung up the phone, clearly amused. However, today was an important day. It was MAY THE FOURTH. As a star wars nerd, today was a big day not only for me, but for all my friends as well. The big party was today. That started an hour ago. The party that I was in charge of.
I called my friend Danielle, begging her for a ride, after briefly explaining my situation. She couldn’t stop laughing, yet I had no idea what these people found so amusing. I had slept through a Geometry test, an English quiz, the election for student council, AND THE FIRST HOUR OF MY STAR WARS PARTY.
Luckily, Danielle decided that she had wanted me there enough to leave and come pick me up. She arrived at my house around 3:50pm, and burst into laughter as soon as she saw me, bedhead, pajamas and all. I had no time to waste; I went as I was.
I arrived to the party and after a lot of story telling and laughter, the party went exactly as planned. I still have no idea how that happened and I am constantly terrified that it will happen again, but at least I gave people a chuckle.
Maybe I need a new alarm clock.
