Sleeping Bags for the Homeless
I have had experiences trying to help those in poverty. I remember waking up on a cold october day, leaving my house around seven am. We drove to Clarkston United Methodist Church and I quickly jumped out of the car. I saw the massive trailer full of coats, and blankets also heading to Flint. I met up with my other conformation friends and all stood in a circle for a little bit shivering. Finally we climbed into the church van and made our short trip to flint. Then we unpacked the massive trailer full of donations. Finally everything was organized and families were let in one by one. My journey companion, Mrs. Kanous and I walked with a guy as I held the bag his excitement grew and grew, he was so happy to get a warm coat, it was too big for him, but he insisted to get a few sizes bigger because he doesn't know when he will be able to get another one, then we went to the shoes table and it was so nice to see that he was able to get a pair of shoes brand new, still with a tag on them. Then once he got a McDonalds gift card and bag of candy, Mrs. Kanous and I went back to the start and got a family of five. A mother, grandmother, and three children. We took the children around and they were hesitant to get anything. Another person that I, personally didn't get to meet, came from Clarkston. He told my fellow confirmands how lucky we are and not to take such a great place like Clarkston for granted. He reminisced about the tight knit community and happily collected his supplies. It felt so nice knowing that even though it was small, I made a difference in my community.
