Sledding Trip
Back in February, I did something not too smart. It was one of the biggest snowstorms in Ohio all year and I was just sitting at my house doing nothing. My friend Anthony called me and told me him and his dad were going to pull sled behind the quad and asked me if I wanted to go. Every year we pull sled and it is a lot of fun. I told Anthony I would go that it sounded fun. Anthony lives about one minute from my house so him and his dad were just going to bring the quad down with the sled and get me. This year we didn't have a sled, so Anthony’s dad Tom had the idea to use an old truck hood as a sled.
I got all bundled up and ready just as they pulled in. It was extremely cold so I had on two pairs of pants, three pairs of socks, and three shirts all under a hoodie and a pair of coveralls. My grandparents and my mom were all getting ready to leave to head to Vinton County to see my great grandma. My mom told Tom about a hundred times to be careful with me. I had never got hurt pulling sled so I just ignored her and figured she was just being an overprotective mother.
I honestly think she jinxed me. We pulled out of the driveway and we were riding on the road and then a car came. Tom went off into the ditch to get into the field. The ditch was filled with snow so you couldn't tell how deep it really was. When Tom hit the ditch the quad jerked and it caused the hood to jerk as well. When he hit I went it the air and hit my knee hard on the hood. It hurt but I kinda thought it was just a stinger that it would go away in a minute. We started riding and I couldn't see because the snow was hitting me in the eyes. I looked Joan and I saw that my coveralls were ripped and blood was seeping out.
I tapped Anthony on the shoulder and pointed to my knee to show him. We were heading back to Anthony's house so Tom could get a face mask and Anthony said we could look at it when we got back to the house. It didn't hurt bad so I didn't think much of it until we got to Anthony's house and by that time my entire knee was covered in blood. Anthony told Tom to look and he was a shocked when he saw the blood. We went into Anthony's garage and I pulled my pant leg up to see how bad it was. When I pulled my pants leg up I was shocked myself. I had a deep gash right on the crease of my knee.
Tom looked at my knee and kind of chuckled and told me I would probably need stitches. I kind of figured since I busted my knee is go ahead and call my mom and let her know. I told my mom I would probably need stitches and she got quite angry with me. She started yelling at me because she told me to be careful and I got hurt. She asked how bad it was and I didn't know so I just told her to talk to Anthony's mom Rana who was in the garage by that time. My mom wouldn't have been angry but she was already halfway to Vinton County when I called her so she had to turn around. My mom called my dad and told him so he came and got me. My dad got me and we met mom mom and grandparents and got my mom and my little cousin Lily.
I'm not going to lie I was pretty nervous to get stitches because I'd never gotten stitches before. I told my mom I was nervous and lily said she was going to record me just in case I cried. When I got into the room at the hospital, a lady came in to clean it out and make sure nothing was in the wound. She was scrubbing my leg really hard right on my cut and I was surprised that it didn't hurt at all. Then the doctor came in soon after. The doctor I had was the coolest Doctor that I ever had. He was really ecstatic and full of energy. He was joking around with me and telling me that he couldn't handle blood well and that he might pass out in the middle of giving me stitches. My cousin was also full of energy. She was running all around the table and talking to the doctor. The whole time she recorded everything I did. When he stuck the needle in my leg to numb me, I thought it was going to hurt but I didn't feel a thing. The only thing that hurt was when he accidentally stuck a stitches through my leg where it wasn't numb.
After he was done he started joking with me some more. Then he gave me his tools he used to stitch up my leg. I thought it was really cool of him to give me the tools because I've never seen a doctor give away his tools before. He told me that they were just going to get thrown away anyways so he might as well just give them to me. I asked him if I was going to be able to still do baseball lifting and he jokingly told me no that my baseball career would be over forever. I laughed then he told me that I was still able to everything just fine. We finished up at the doctor and headed home. Even though I only got to get on the sled for about 5 minutes, it was still a pretty fun night.
