The debate on if dogs or cats make better compainions is constant in my household. While many of us are biased and chose dogs for the simple fact that a dog is the only pet they've had, I can see both sides of the spectrum. Dogs and cats both have pros and cons and in this article we are going to be exploring them.

First of all, cats do have many pros. Cats are very low maintainace. You don't have to constantly take them outside because they use the restroom on their litter. They are also very relaxed pets. They'd rather sit around and cuddle than play around and fetch all day. My favorite thing about cats is they don't bark. They only have a soft little meow, though, that could get annoying after a while I'm sure.

Secondly, cats have a lot of cons. We all know the struggle of making sure that the cat doesn't tear up the furniture. You'll have to go out and buy a little kitty post for them to climb up instead of your couch. Those can cost up to $100 and that can really be a hassle. The worst con of them all, in my opinion, would be the allergens. I've had the worst experiences with cats and nobody wants to be a sniffling mess.

Next, dogs have many pros to compainionship. Canines, dogs, tend to be more playful than cats. If you're the type of person that enjoys being active then you should look into getting a dog for a pet. Dogs can also be great protecors. They have been used for guard dogs and also patrol dogs for the police. Dogs can even boost your mood, believe it or not. Spending 15-30 minutes with your dog can really relieve stress.

Even though dogs can be great pets, they do have a downside. Since they are born protectors, they can be violent. One minute you're playing around with your dog and the next you're fighting them off with a stick. Also, they take a lot of work. Taking them out time and time again can become a chore and half the time they don't even use the bathroom. A dog's biggest con, in my opinion, is their loud barking. Its all cute when they're barking at the mailman but when they are constantly barking at the door, it gets very annoying.

So now that we know the main pros and cons of having a cat or dog, we can make an educated guess on which one will best fit our lives. If you enjoy being active and playful, consider getting a dog. Or, if you enjoy relaxing and cuddling, look into adopting a cat. Just know they both shed a lot of fur! Nobody wants hair everywhere in the house. Don't say I didn't warn you...
