Maddening Pranks

Every classroom has a class clown. Sometimes they are funny, and sometimes they are obnoxious. However, they almost always take things too far, at least once. This happened to us in second grade, when the class clown decided to pull a prank on our teacher. This class clown was notorious for getting in trouble, but could never be put down. He’d get scolded, his parents would be called, but yet he still came into the class with a smile when it was all over. On this particular day, our teacher was gone for about half an hour to talk with another parent, and he seized the opportunity to prank our teacher. Our teacher had a massive stack of Highlights magazines. Our teacher told us how he got 6 feet of these magazines for free, at a garage sale. However, because it was such a huge amount, we all got sick of them by the middle of the year. They were collecting dust, so we had better ideas. working like a well oiled machine, we transported all the magazines that we could to the teacher’s closet, with the orders and under the guidance of the class clown.  We knew he would eventually open the closet to take out his coat at the end of the day. After stacking them in the most unstable position possible, we gingerly closed the doors. The class clown then stepped in, and gave the closet a little shake. In our minds, this meant that the blame all went to him, because he was the one who put the plan into motion. We heard the magazines shift, and we knew that the trap was set. When the teacher would open the closet, the whole stack would come tumbling down. We all waited eagerly. However, the class picked up an an underlying tone of anger when he came back from his meeting. We had a feeling that the meeting didn’t go so well with the parent, and that our little prank wasn’t going to go over so well with him. We realized that we needed to stop what was going to happen, and the smiles on all of our faces turned to expressions of bleakness in seconds. In vain, we tried making our teacher leave, but none of us wanted to mess with him while he was in such a bad mood. The day slowly crawled by, and near the end, when we were reading silently, he took some more phone calls. These phone calls probably weren’t good news either, as we could all see the anger boiling up inside of him. At last, the bell rung. Usually, we would all jump out of our seats, screaming with joy. However, today, all of us were dead silent. We quietly got up from our seats, and while walking away, saw the teacher open the cabinet. Everyone froze. All of the magazines came tumbling down on him, and he didn’t even flinch. He just stood there, accepting his fate, as they fell. He slowly turned his head towards us, and with the most nefarious grin on his face, he said, “Just wait till tomorrow.” Needless to say, the next day, we had to do a couple extra math problems. And the ever jubilant class clown that organized the whole thing? We never knew what happened to him, other than the fact that he never spoke about it again, and he sure wasn’t smiling the next day.
