This is nothing extraordinary, nothing that is meant to be deep or intelligent, it is simply trying to show others what I’ve learned through my mistakes, failures, and the occasional triumphs.

I am truly not a person to be praised, and I am certainly nowhere near perfection, but at this point in my life I’ve learned to accept who I am, but to never stop trying to build greatness onto the person that I am. Everyone has their faults, and everyone has their strengths, and one of the most important things I have learned in life is to magnify other’s strengths, and to never point out their weaknesses.

In all seriousness, what does that help? What does tearing someone else down, do to build you up? If it does build you up, there is something far more wrong with you than is wrong with the person you’re tearing down step by step. But the saddest thing in life that I have ever experienced is someone that doesn’t know how to love, or is so afraid of love that they refuse to do it. Love is easily the greatest power that has ever been know to man.

“4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.” (1 Corinthians 12:4-8)  Love is something immeasurable, something that is impossible to put into words, but love is something that when present, beams so brightly that it is impossible to miss it. Love has been known to improve our human lives in a number of ways. Love has been known to lead to less depression, less substance abuse, lower blood pressure, less anxiety, natural pain control, better stress management, fewer colds, faster healing, a longer life, and most importantly a happier life. With all of these benefits, it seems you would be crazy not to want to know how to love.

Not all believe this, but I believe completely that not just humans are capable of love. There have been hundreds of thousands of cases where animals have shown incredible acts of love. For example, in Tokyo, Japan in 1924 a man named Hidesabur? Ueno brought his dog, Hachi, with him each morning out the door and the dog would meet him at the train station when he got done with work that evening. The dog did this each and every evening until May of 1925 when his owner passed away and he was given away to a family friend. Still, Hachi would escape the yard and wait in any type of weather for his owner who would never come back to the train station. This act of love by Hachi, an Akita, continued for 9 years until he was found dead on March 8, 1935. It seems preposterous to say that the kind of loyalty shown by this dog doesn’t come from love.

What I truly don’t understand though, is the fact that some people in this world don’t see the importance in loving one another. As sad as it is, it is exceedingly evident in our world today that a vast amount of people have so much hate in their hearts that love is troublesome to find. In science, it is said that there is no such thing as “cold” there is only the absence of heat, and I have come to believe that maybe there isn’t such thing as “hate”, maybe there is just an absence of love. Maybe, just maybe, love is the answer. Love is what our world needs.

My inspiration for writing this piece was my father. My father was diagnosed when he was 19 with Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD), and last December his kidneys began to fail. In this time of struggle, a woman from our church came to us and told us that she would like to be tested to see if she could donate a kidney to him. Three months later my dad had the transplant and is now doing wonderfully! Her act of not only love, but of courage and kindness too, was another thing that inspired me to write this piece!
