Sisters: Through Thick and Thin
I have an older sister named Adriana. She has blonde hair, green eyes and we are 17 months apart. My sister and I have never really gotten along. We always fought over everything, hair ties, headbands, clothes, who got to sit in the front seat of the car, and many other things. On Christmas in 2004, when my sister was 6 and I was 5 we got into a huge fight because she got a toy that i really wanted and she wouldn’t share so I got extremely mad. Every time my sister and I would talk, a few minute later it would conclude with a fight.
In 2010, when I was in 5th grade and Adriana was in 7th grade, my mom was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. My sister pushed everyone away and wouldn’t talk to anyone. One day she was in her room, and my dad who she was really close with offered to take her to lunch and she got mad and told him “Leave me alone, I don’t want to talk to anyone”, so he did. After my mom was in the hospital for 8 months my sister realized that you can't just take people for granted because you'll never know when they are going to leave your life and that fighting never results in anything.
In the summer of 2013, my sister and I started talking without fighting. We would actually agree on the same things like where we wanted to go for dinner, who got to sit in the passenger seat, and she let me wear her clothes when I didn't have anything to wear. Then in the summer of 2014, my sister and I became closer than we were before. When we went on vacation to our summer home in Clear Lake, Adriana and I would go on walks/jogs together, walk to the local corner store and get ice cream or deli sandwiches, go to the pool, or watch tv.
Now my sister is my best friend and she does anything for me. She drives me to school, to practice and home everyday. She's always there for me when I need a ride somewhere, or if I need money or even someone to talk to! Recently my sister and I go to lunch together or go to the movies. One morning she brought me Starbucks and a chocolate chip cookie and texted me saying "Have a great day, I love you" and I was really surprised because she never says I love you to anyone. Also, one night I was hungry and my sister went out and got me food when she could have been studying for an upcoming test or doing homework. I can tell her anything and know she will keep it a secret. My sister becoming my best friend didn't happen overnight it took a couple of years and now I love my sister and best friend more than anything in the whole world and that will never change!
