Jailbreak
We all sat in the living room realizing that boredom has come upon us. All of us looked at each other, glum faces and all. Videogames became old and meant taking turns, and who wants to do that. We thought about going outside, but we had nothing to play with. But just then, when everyone reached the peak of their boredom, my brother sprung up and yelled, “JAILBREAK!”
It was the best idea any of us has had in days. We all jumped up at once, with huge smiles and trembling bodies full of excitement. We all ran outside, almost ripping the screen door off of its hinges. My big brother ran to the center of the yard to announce the rules. I listened closely to hear if anything changed. After all, this was the first time I was able to play with the big kids. I knew this wasn’t going to be the same, playful game I played on the smoldering blacktop at school with my friends. This was going to be the real deal.
So teams were chosen and sighs begun a brewing from the team marked as the ‘cops’. Of course, everyone wanted to be a robber. I was lucky enough to be a tuff robber that was chosen to face the pestering cops. The role soon came over me, I started to act tuff and gritty, so everyone knew not to mess with me. I started to strut my stuff and curl my fingers into a fist. I was ready to show my stuff and scare the opponent. I took this role very serious all up until they said start. Then my naïve side kicked in. I realized this wasn’t the same game I played on the blacktop where I hid inside of the slide. This was a tactical game.
I froze instantly, and panicked when I realized I needed a hiding spot and I needed one fast. I didn’t want to get caught the first time playing with my brother and his friends. I didn’t want to look weak and small to them. My face quickly turned a light pink as I quickly, but gingerly ran around the yard to find the perfect spot to hide in. Just then, I stopped, and spotted the massive green hedges my dad just planted in the yard. I ran as fast as I could to those hedges, like I had nothing to lose. I ran and leaped into them to finally secure my safety.
At last, I found the perfect spot to hide from those horrifying pigs. I thought if I could just hide in there and stay quiet, I would be safe. The beads of sweat ran down my small face and a huge smile formed on my face. I was finally hidden and could potentially win the game. I moved my leg to get more comfortable, but just as I looked up, I was caught. There stood the towering cop staring into my eyes. I carefully pulled myself out and admitted defeat. My days of being a robber were over.
