One of the biggest decisions I had to make in my life was whether or not I was going to play football in college or not. I decided that I wasn't going to play football. I decided that I was going to throw shot in college. My decision came to me when I received my first recruiting letter from Olivet Nazarene university. When I showed my mom the recruiting letter she had a look of defeat on her face. She knew from then on that my football career was over and that I was going to devote myself to doing just pure track. Now I am still playing football in high school for my senior year, but at the same time track is very important to me and I want to throw in college. This would be very joyful to me since I have already received recruiting letters for my accomplishments. The fact that I even made it on the top twenty throwers list for this year, I knew what I had to really do. I am very excited to throw in college and I am very proud of my accomplishments so far as a thrower.

From this season it is a clear decision that I want to throw shot put in college. My achievements throughout my season continue to gain the attention of college recruiters, and my decision almost seemed mindless when it came to what I wanted to pursue in college. This decision was very important to me since the very first day I received my letter. I was in my college accounting class when my teacher approached me with a letter saying, “looks like you’ve got some paid mail.” I didn’t really understand what he meant by “paid mail”, but never the less I opened the white letter. The letter was very formal and straight to the fact. Line one. It said, “Dear John, your recent track achievements have really caught the attention of us over here at Olivet Nazarene. As of today you are officially being recruited.” Inside the letter were a few other things about their program and what their track schedule was like for the year. The university was catholic and they are located not too far from my home town of Park Ridge, but I don’t intend on staying in Illinois for my education. Though I do not intend on attending Olivet Nazarene university, it did open my eyes to the options I have for my college education.

Later that day when I came home from my school day, I showed my mother the letter. She said great, you can also play football there too. When I heard my mom still wanted me to play football I knew it was up to me to make the decision to play football in college or not. From there I received three more letters about my athletics and their throwing programs. Continuing my athletic career in my opinion won’t be hard to at all. It will also help me in paying for my college education.

This was a very important decision to me and I cannot wait to see what other things my future has to hold for me.
