Community Service Experience
One of the greatest experiences of my young adulthood has been exploring another aspect of
who I am as a person through community service. Initially, I looked into service because I
wanted to help make a change in someone's life, and though this motive still applies, I have
learned that I can't walk away from service without it having changed my own. On my first
service trip to Lewiston, Maine, I was committed to my task: cleaning up the childcare facilities,
serving the children meals, and of course, interacting with the children. When I was finished, I
had a revitalized sense of accomplishment and self worth. I found that I was capable of creating
positive change, in a way that I never knew I could. When I arrived in Niagara Falls this past
summer, I was proven once again that my words and actions were meaningful as I made
friendships with senior citizens, and lifted the burden for the regular senior center volunteers.
Through my experience with community service, I have unearthed a passion.
