It's All an Illusion
When you look at the concept of perfection, it makes you feel even further from it. Do you think of a model with a perfect body? We have a standard in society that we are expected to maintain. We have to look like this and act like this, but, if we don’t, what happens? Would you sacrifice your own personality to be accepted by everyone?
When I hear the word perfection, I think of a beautiful person. They aren’t fat or mean. They are the one person that everyone wants to be. They set the standard of what we have to look like. They use “perfect” people to entice us to buy products that will supposedly make us look better. Companies try to say that if we buy this that we will be one step closer to perfection. Although, how do we know what perfection is? Isn’t it something that is unobtainable.
In society, we all have to follow the standard. We have to be skinny, but not too skinny. We have to be tall, but not too tall. Who has the authority to set the standard for humanity? If no one is perfect, then how can they say what is. Who gives a person the right to judge us. I will allow people to judge me on my flaws when they fix all of theirs.
The concept of perfection messes with other ideas. Love; isn’t it supposed to be unconditional. Commercials say how if you use this that you will automatically have your love renewed in your partner; that maybe your spouse will lose interest in you when your beauty fades. Love means that no matter what, you will be with that person. No one would have guessed how much trouble one word could cause everyone. They give you ideas about something that may not be true.
When you see a fat person you think that they can’t be pretty; but why is that? Have you ever thought of what actually causes someone to think that a person is ugly. What if skinny people were to be considered ugly and “fat” was how you were supposed to look. Everything is just a big trend waiting for someone to start a new one. We think we have a clear idea of what perfection is; how is that possible?
Perfection is illusive. We could compare perfection to being godly, for, isn’t God perfect? And if so, how can we be Godly? This isn’t possible. We are just human. Human. This one word describes our whole existence. Human means that we will make mistakes, maybe multiple times. We will try and fail. But, the amazing thing is we always get back up. We may not be perfect, but we will keep trying.
