My first thought as i walked into the high school was “Holy crap! I’m gonna hit my head on these doors!” This was because I was 6’ 4” at the time, and the doors seemed really low. This happened to be my first day of any kind of public school. I had been homeschooled for my entire life up until that point. When I went into highschool my life changed immensely. My favorite parts of the day were 3rd hour civics, lunch after 4th hour, and 7th hour science.

1st hour was pretty slow, as well 2nd. Then I had a 3rd hour civics class. This class was one of my favorites because this teacher was the nicest on the first day. While I was adjusting, it was my favorite class. The funny thing is that after I had adjusted; she was the strictest teacher in 9th grade and then came her tests, which made it even worse. Those things were like bee stings- you hurt for a little, but then you get over it. After that class I had a study hall.

Then I got to have lunch. Now, everyone loves lunch. It’s almost everyones favorite part of the day. I especially liked it because we were having a type of breadsticks that I had when i was growing up. The only difference was that when I had them as a kid, they had garlic butter on them, the breadsticks at school didn’t. On the first day of school I was asked to join many lunch tables. I chose to sit with the my older brother and sister. This was mostly because I was socially awkward and didn’t want to sit with anyone. Next I had 5th hour english, and 6th hour spanish.

Then I had 7th hour science. I liked this class because this was both the teachers and my first year. So we had something in common. This helped us connect so we talked. He and I could talk the most out of all my teachers. We talked about a lot of things. Mostly science, he was a science teacher after all. As I was walking out of the classroom, he pulled me aside. He told me “Kids like you are the reason I like teaching. The ones that pay attention and listen to me.” This was the biggest reason I liked him so much. I also liked this class because it was my last one of the day. So I was excited that it was almost time to leave school.

My schedule for the first semester of school was 1st hour math, 2nd hour gym, 3rd hour civics, 4th hour study hall, 5th hour english, 6th hour spanish, and 7th hour science. The ones that helped me out of the turtle shell called “being homeschooled” were 3rd hour, lunch, and 7th hour. Even though all the doors are still too small and i almost hit my head on them.
