Camp Awana was one of my favorite places on Earth. It is an away camp for young boys and girls. There were tons of activities to do. Kayaking, swimming, basketball, carpet ball, nature center, they had it all. I had the most fun when we were allowed to go to the craft center. In the oversized old log cabin it smelled like clay and paint. The center leader was so kind and helped all of us pick out things to work on. I chose to paint little treasure chests, one for my mom and one for my dad. I was so excited to have a souvenir to give then that I made myself. I started on my moms. I made it purple-her favorite color- and pink. I wrote “Mom” on the top, and “NJ” her initials on the sides. Then came my dads. His was blue and black, and of course said “Dad” and “RJ” on it. I concentrated so hard on making the letters even and pretty. I was so proud of it, even if it didn’t exactly turn out as planned. The names were off center, they weren’t in a straight line, and looked like a two year old wrote them. I came home ready to give my parents their awesome souvenir. They of course said they loved it, and thanked me many times. They put them on their dresser and said they would definitely use them. Well, they ended up not using them, but those ugly treasure chests still sit on their dressers.
