Personal Hades
A personal Hades for me would be waking up in pitch darkness. I come home an early morning practice, and I see my family. My mother is making lunch, my dad is watching Saturday morning college football, and my older brother is aggravating and playing with our baby sister. I wave and say I am about to take a nap and will be back to join everyone later. But when I get up an hour later, there is nothing but darkness. I strained my eyes, at first thinking that I had been asleep longer than I thought I would be. I reach over to turn over my light and nothing happens. I look at my tv and it does not work. Even my phone has been drained. I started to panic. I look out my window and there is no light anywhere. Fumbling around in the dark, I stumbled over my shoes and hurt my big toe. I scream and my voice just echoes. I call out to my mom as I can still smell what she is cooking and at first the silence is deafening. Then I heard her yell out for me. I get scared because the closer I get to her the farther away she sounds. I scream at my other family member names, and it is the same thing. No matter how close I feel like I am, the farther away they seem. I ran my hands across the wall to steady and guide myself. It feels like ice in my clammy hands. This is crazy! I was like I just came home to sunlight, everyone in place. I could taste the chicken my mom was cooking. I could hear the sound of the TV and my brother and sister. Now there was darkness and silence. Then I figured out that I am all alone. In the dark. But not just alone in my house, alone in the world.
