Extraordinary

I am nothing extraordinary. I am not 6’4”. I can’t lift 700 lbs. I didn’t get a 36 on my ACT. There isn’t much that seems extraordinary when you just look at me. But once you get to know me there are a couple of things, specifically my hard work and determination that do stand out. Now it would be boring if I just listed them out and just stated those couple of things so I’ll tell you examples of these in story form. Enjoy.

My heart is beating while I stand in the hallway one by one they call in one baseball player at a time. The task tells the player if they have made the team or not. It’s alphabetical order, so there is no reason for the order. I get my name called and walk into the gym. My heart is shattered into a million pieces and I am torn apart by the news, “I am sorry but we will not be keeping you for the baseball team this year.” I slowly walk out of the gym, tears starting to build up in my eyes. All I can think about is all my hard work down the drain.

I stand there on the podium with hearts filled with excitement as the whole team joins me and we celebrate being state champions. I think four months ago I wasn’t good enough to make the baseball team, but now I am a state champion in a different sport, track and field, the sport that I quit freshman year. Maybe it was a blessing in disguise, I found something I am good at and something I can become great at, that is where my hard work and dedication will be contributed towards. Throughout this experience I learned to not let one negative thing get you down, but instead use those negative things to fuel your drive to be better and be the best you, you can possibly be.

I will work not till I get it written, but I will work till I cannot get it wrong.
