A Note to Me

My mom called my name from the laundry room as I’m sitting on the couch watching TV. “ Sophie Rose, can you come here real quick?” I got up and walked to the laundry room and I saw her holding this yellow piece of notebook paper that looks like it could have been a hundred years old. As my mom holds the piece of paper she attempts to read it to me struggling with some words because of the discoloration of the paper. As my mom finishes reading me the letter I find myself holding back my tears and starting to get that burning feeling in my nose.
The night that I was born, my mom decided to write a summary of the birth and overall day. My mom told me that it was one of the best days of her life and that she knew if she didn't write it down the memory would fade. In the letter she described the weather outside, the way my older sister cried on the way to the hospital and how she didn't understand what was happening because she was only two but she knew it was a big deal, and the emotions she felt. She told me that the day I was born was the happiest she has ever felt in her life. This meant the absolute world to me.
Though this might seem like the most valuable thing in an average home, this note makes me feel so loved and something no other item in my house can do. The fact that my mom has five other kids and only has one note like this, has stuck with me. It makes me feel like me and my mom have a special bond and were meant to take on life together.
My relationship with my mom has not always been the best. It was just recently that we started to see eye to eye and build our relationship. As I have matured I have realized that my mom will always have my best interest in mind, and that is the best gift I could receive from my mom. My mom doesnt have the easiest life and has sacrificed so much to be a good parent and I will always cherise anything my mom does for me.
