The Connection to You
Dear Younger Me,
You don't know me but I know you. I remember you thinking about me and what it was like to be you. We think so differently and I know that I did not turn out how you thought we would. Maybe even worse than what you imagined.
Anyway, I'm writing you about an assignment for creative writing. Do you recall when we used to think about the most important things to us and you always said Mom? I do. I have been asked to choose again; another important thing. Mom and Alex are okay and pets, but Copper is in a better place.
My first thought about what I should choose was my computer. I mean it’s an obvious choice, right? It has entertainment, information, memories, etc. And then I thought of you and I know you would have wanted to keep our kid blanket, the one from Mom. I know how much we love Mom; don’t worry, we still love her more than anything. She has always been there for us in every way imaginable. I can still imagine the feeling of curling up under it and becoming so happy from how soft it is. It had such a warm feeling to it with its brownish-tan color.
The connection to that blanket is a symbolic, sentimental connection that embodies our love for Mom. And it connects with every version of me that there ever was. The blanket holds most of my memories in it ever since I was a child. So I chose the blanket because you’re still a part of me and I know you will be by my side for the longest.
Sincerely,
Future You
