“Thank you, Jasmine. Clear Points, and excellent argument. Next is Anna, take it away!”

My heart racing. Palms sweating. Feeling like my intestines are in knots. I stand up with a deep breath. “Although her points are valid, if school was from nine to four,” my mind blanks, there's nothing, I forgot everything. What was I going to say? “Umm, if school was from nine to four instead of eight to three,” is all I remember. What were my points? Why is it better? I can’t do this. My mind shutting down completely. Breath becoming unsteady. Fingers trembling. Throat closing in. I felt my heart pounding faster in every part of my body.

Before I knew it, my friend was helping me out to the hallway. The only thing that occupied my ears were the sounds of my blood rushing and my clear racking heart beat. I couldn’t breathe the way I was supposed to. My tears blurred my vision. I was numb. I was drowning in my own anxiety.

I am currently a Junior in high school. This is a piece I wrote about getting an anxiety attack in my freshman year English class. I know many people suffer from panic/anxiety attacks and I hope sharing this will help students know that they are not alone.
