My Crazy Life

It was a good, warm, and very sunny day to go outside and have fun. That is what I did for most of the day until it started to get dark until my mother started to talk to me and my sister about something that happened to my father. She told us that the Greeley Police had arrested him for driving under the influence. We waited for the cops to tell us where he was and when we could see him. I remember they called my mother and she got me and my sister ready mentally and emotionally to go see him. We had a few visits every month but unfortunately, after a long 7 months we received the news that he was going to be deported to his country; Mexico. I was sad and it was difficult for my mother and sister but my mother decided to stay in the states so me and my sister could get the education and the life we deserved.

It was the beginning of summer of 2018. It was the first summer without my father. I continued having fun, riding bikes, going to the water parks etc.. My grandfather and grandmother from my father’s side called one late afternoon to let my mom know they wanted me to go visit them and my father. I took a bus from here all the way to Torreon, MX. I was there for all of July and came back in August to go back to school. I was very excited to see my family because I hadn’t seen them in years and I was also happy to reunite with my father. Every weekend, we would have something called a “tianguis” which is like a flea market. My grandmother would sell a lot of clothes and jewelry. Me and my father would go out and see the different things people would sell. We also had a state fair which would only last about a week but these events were the events that we would bond the most. It was hard having to leave after a whole month and not knowing when I would return. My father also told me that he was “banned” from the United States for 10 years so my sister wasn’t able to fix his immigration status as soon as she turned 21.

In 2021,  me and my family went on a vacation to Glenwood Springs, Colorado. Glenwood Springs is about 3 hours away from Greeley and it is heading towards the mountains. We stayed at a hotel that was close to pretty much anything. It was a huge shock when we discovered how small Glenwood Springs actually is. The first day, we went to the mall which was a disappointment. They only had a Ross and a Michoacána which is an ice cream place. We couldn’t really do much shopping but we did get to enjoy other things. We tried new restaurants and also tried a new food truck that was expensive but the food was amazing. On our second day, we went on a gondola lift that takes you all the way up onto a mountain. Once you land, they have other mechanical rides, tours and even a restaurant. We tried to enjoy as much as we could but the lines were extremely long and it was chilly. That same night, we went to the Hot Springs Pool. The water was so hot but in a good way. The mountains were full of snow and the view was amazing. The next day, we headed back home.

It was a very cold day and also the beginning of my winter break. I was in 5th grade. I was glad to be out of school and do fun activities in the snow. I had a good amount of friends at the apartment complex we were living at. Every morning we could go out and have snowball fights and have competitions of who could build a snowman faster. My mother has always been a huge fan of Christmas. She would take my and my sister to Hobby Lobby to buy all of her decorations. My sister didn’t like to put on any decorations so I would always help my mom to put our Christmas tree up and all other decorations such as the lights outside the house. Christmas has always been very special because my whole family is there and we feel like an actual family. Everyone is involved and everyone gets to celebrate together.

This June, I was ready to go on  a tiny vacation with my girlfriend. Since it was her birthday her family decided to go on a camping trip for a whole two days. The first day of being at Estes Park, we mostly got everything ready and prepared such as setting the RV and getting a picnic table outside where we are camping. For the first couple of hours after setting up we were inside the RV watching movies. However, the place where we were staying had events going on. For example, they had a dance competition which we enjoyed. They also had movie nights so everyone would come out and gather up to watch a movie. We did join some events but they also had swimming pools, arcades, lunch areas, and so much more so we tried to explore a little bit of everything.  At night time, we would go out and start a campfire. My girlfriend’s father would play some music while the rest of us enjoyed some s’mores.

It was a very bright sunny day. I woke with happiness because I remembered that we were planning to go to the lake. The first thing I did was get all of my essentials. This included my swim shorts, towel, sunscreen etc.. The lake we were going to was called Boyd Lake in Loveland. It was super packed with people so it was hard to find parking and to find a good area with a picnic table.  As soon as we got there and got settled in, my mother started making the whole family sandwiches and hot dogs. We rented out some jet skis and some paddle boats. We took turns on those and when it wasn’t our turn we would just swim in the lake. The lake was extremely cold but after a few minutes your body gets used to it. We enjoyed the whole day there and as soon as sundown hit we packed everything up and headed home.

Author’s Note:

This essay really means a lot to me because every essay is a time in my life that has really made me feel very happy, grateful, and trying to have fun in the world and not being sad, mad about things that happen and trying to improve on things. Some of the techniques that I was using while writing my essay was probably some persuasive writing because I was writing about personal experiences in the world from what I get happy from doing and also by using some emotions in my story’s like happy, excited, and fun. For revising my essay was first starting to read the entire thing and trying to find parts that don’t make sense and give it more detail also capitalizing words that I have forgotten. And finding parts that need some punctuation cause I've been told that I really need to add more periods which I don't. I feel that I have grown more into being a writer because I'm able to understand the different types of writing or the difference between an essay and a story and learn more by using different skills of writing. And would like writers to know that i really wasn't a fan of writing but now i truly enjoy writing knowing that i can write now.
