On the train, I looked out of the window, expecting something unexpected or surprising to happen on this desert trip. I was very excited all the way, talking about what will happen in the desert with my friends, standing up and looking around. Time passed quickly, and soon we arrived at the destination, which was the endless desert as far as the eye could see. Everywhere was dull yellow, there were no trees, and the vastness of the desert shocked every one of us.

We put on thick sun-protective clothing and held onto the hiking pole. The temperature is a high 40 degrees celsius. The guide explained the rules to us: We had to walk 18 kilometers per day for four days.  There are two roads that we can choose from. one is down the hill; there are rivers and vegetation, the road is relatively flat, easy to walk, and it is not so hot. The second route is through the real desert, all sand, no water, often dust storms happen. Even before starting the trek, we could feel it blowing into our eyes.We need to go step by step, feet stuck in the sand, and then pull out.We need to arrive before 6 PM to the next destination,  but there will be a rest area every five kilometers, where we can drink water and eat some food. If we really cannot persist, we can quit and take the car. Those who do persist in the end will have a surprise.

Everyone was very excited when they heard the rules.  Each person wanted to fight for first place. Personally, I also wanted to win the surprise. Soon, we started. A few boys ran in the front, a bunch of girls in the back. Quickly, we opened a long distance. I could not help being discouraged.

Many people took the first route, but two adults and one child took the second. That child was me. I chose the first route because I wanted to break through and challenge myself. The weather was so hot and dry. We wore thick clothes to protect ourselves from the sun, so it was stuffy and hot. I held the hiking pole, walking with difficulty and  sweating through my clothes. I knew that if I chose to give up, I could rest, eat and drink. But I was not not willing. I still wanted to walk through the entire desert.

Among the 20 people, most took the bus to the destination, and chose not to continue to go on. I watched boys and girls get on the bus until there were only two adults left to walk. I decided to follow my heart and walk the entire desert. If I have already walked so far, I'm not going to give up now. So, I kept walking.

In the end, I was the only one of the children to walk the entire desert. At that time,  I was only ten years old. I successfully challenged myself and insisted on walking 48km. At the end, I looked at the crowd cheering and applauding for me, as I stood on the stage with the trophy. I was so proud of myself.
