I noticed similar stickers advertising egg donations in the restroom of a local shopping mall and on the telephone pole near my school. Intrigued, I started to keep an eye on similar advertisements. I then realized that although unnoticed by the mainstream, egg donation advertisements are prevalent in China.

However, the girls these advertisements target receive merely fragmentary information. They know little about egg donations’ harm, nor how to use laws to protect themselves. Therefore, to raise more people's awareness of egg donation and its relevant legal policies, I organized a team to survey the current egg donation market in China.

We interviewed and researched many people, including lawyers who support different views on egg donation, girls who have gone through egg donation, gynecologists’ expertise in assisted reproduction, and so on. I even disguised myself as a college student to visit illegal institutions to collect first-hand information. We also designed an online survey to examine citizens’ opinions and understandings of egg donation in China and received a total of 1073 samples. We carried out offline surveys in Tianhe District and Baiyun District in Guangzhou. By analyzing these data, we conducted a comprehensive report which covers a wide range of diverse voices.

While gaining a deeper understanding of communication through researching the dissemination of egg donation advertisements, I felt genuine excitement about raising more people’s attention to the hidden issues of egg donation with our report.
