The final game
“You think we’re gonna win?” They said. That just made me feel worse. I was trying to get that off my mind. As the music on the bus was blasting I said, “hopefully”. The bus ride felt like it took forever and it finally slammed to a stop. We all got off the bus cold like we haven’t ever felt the bitterness of it. It was like the perfect field, with the lights on covering up the night sky, it felt like it was meant to be. The warm ups were nerve racking as we saw all the people coming to watch us. All the fans cheering felt like it put more pressure on us to win. It was the most people I had ever seen at one of our games.
“TWEET”. It began, the whistle blew and the roller coaster of a game had just started. Later, they were dribbling down the long skinny field and there were only 2 of us back. We managed to stop them but they got a corner kick out of it. They could get an easy goal out of this so we had to try our hardest to get it out. As he kicked it I shifted over and jumped up and hit it as hard as I could with my head. I saved it and people were cheering because I saved us. As the game went on it just got more intense since nobody could score. It was like the lead up to the big drop of the roller coaster. “TWEET” the 1st half had just ended 0-0. We huddled up and discussed what we needed to do better. The second half started but we came out with more confidence and more drive to win. Everybody on the team hated this one player on the other team and he was already being very physical. Somebody had to stop him. One of our teammates took his chance and trucked him to the ground resulting in a yellow card. The kid just gave up after that knowing everybody wanted to do that to him. A while past and there was a foul at the 30 yard line and Hugo was there to take it. “Bam” you could hear the speed on the ball. It flew right into the goalie box. The ball struck right into our striker's head and we scored. Everybody jumped up and cheered as the score was now 1-0. Immediately after, The game started up again with us trying to secure our lead with another game changing goal. Soon after, there was a foul in the box which meant a penalty kick. Everybody went silent so the shooter could concentrate. “Swoosh” the ball flew right into the net giving us a huge lead of 2-0. That gave me relief after the pressure put on us to win. I learned that I need to keep trying no matter what the situation is.
After that we scored another goal making it 3-0. Shortly after, the game ended, and everybody ran onto the field crowding us and cheering. The other team walked off watching us and they looked mad. They knew it was our second time in a row winning the championship. After we got the trophy and took pictures we all got on the bus to go back home. It was our first time riding the bus home and we took it because it would be our last time ever being able to. On the bus we were blasting music and cheering. I felt a mix of excitement and sadness because the season was over but we finished how we wanted to. The lesson I learned to try my hardest even in the intense and hard situations.
