Unleashed Puppy
One sunny summer morning my mom called out to me and said “Alyssa could you please take Sophie to go outside?”
“Sure,” I yelled from my room.
I put on my navy Lululemon shorts and hot pink flowery cropped top and hurried down the stairs where my dog was waiting for me. I gave her some affection and grabbed her Pupperoni from the shelf. She jumped up with her tail wagging. I picked her up and walked outside to her pen. She did her business and I carefully opened the gate making sure I could grab her collar and pick her up. Before I could grab her, she bolted out and ran around the yard. I chased after her as I realized I had forgotten her leash. I felt awful as she could get seriously injured by cars, busses or other animals. Sophie could even be lost forever. If only I would have remembered her leash and left the gate closed I wouldn’t have put her in serious danger.
I ran like the wind around the bushes, trees, swings, and driveway. I yelled “SOPHIE SIT!” in a worried voice, and directed her with a hand motion. She didn't seem to care. I was calling her name as she sprinted towards another dog, a man, and a woman. I reached into my pocket in a fist and pretended I had a treat for her. She quickly sniffed me as I reached for her collar and yelled, “SOPHIE STAY!” Then I put my arms around her chest and lifted her up. It was quite easy as she was only about 8 pounds. She was still a very young puppy. I hugged her tightly and brought her inside for safety, I had saved her from running away. From that moment on I would never leave her unleashed ever again.
From this experience, I learned that I need to be very careful with dogs and animals, because of what will happen if you aren’t careful enough. This is the responsibility of having a young puppy. The importance was shown when I had forgotten her leash as she ran around the yard unleashed. It is shown in the story how I thought about what had happened, “I felt awful as she could get seriously injured by cars, busses or other animals. Sophie could even be lost forever. If only I would have remembered her leash and left the gate closed I wouldn’t have put her in serious danger.” I stated this in the text. As of this summer day, I have never left her leash in the house. I will always remember this experience.
