The Stupidity In Kindergarden

I remember I got in trouble for putting chapstick on my cheeks. To be fair, my impression of blush was pink or rosy or even red. On this unfortunate day, I was with my friend Vrinda. We were the naughtiest kids in the class. Every other week I got in trouble and my parents got an email. During brunch, Vrinda and I went to the playground. We hung out there for a few minutes then went on the bridge, slid down the slide, and played hopscotch. Just as things were getting boring I asked Vrinda, “Do you want to go to the bathroom? We can put this new chapstick I got at the store on our cheeks!” She agreed her smile stretching to both corners of her tiny face. We walked to the bathroom trying to not act suspicious. In the bathroom we took the chapstick and upon seeing ourselves in the mirror, started giggling.

“This is going to look so cool!” exclaimed Vrinda.

“I agree this is going to look AMAZING!” I replied.

We left the bathroom thinking everything was okay. Our rosy cheeks were like circles of Everyone stopped and stared at us. I thought it was because we looked amazing, but truthfully we looked like Annabel, the killer doll. Two minutes in, the teacher called us to the room.  My gosh, I couldn't express how scared I was. The first minute we were playing games on the playground being happy and fooling around but the next minute we were called in ready to face our doom. The teacher called my parents and it rang for 10 seconds. “Hello?” my mom spoke. Our teacher droned on about how we were being a nuisance. School ended and my parents were looking at me with wide open eyes. “I'M SORRY” I screamed. They started to laugh because gosh I looked so dumb.

To this day I still meet up with Vrinda and we laugh about how silly and naive we were. Sometimes I bring the story up just to taunt her. It's like our little inside joke. I say “Remember kindergarten?”. We laugh, everyone stares at us like we're insane much like they did in kindergarten.

The literary device I decided to experiment with is flashback. I explained about how I was an idiot in kindergarten. I used dialogue and details to express how I was feeling. I used this to show that the flashback actua;ly teaches a lesson to learn from your mistakes.
