Urban exploring
My alarm blared at me to wake up as I groaned for it to shut up. “It’s too early for this” I said as I rolled over to check the time on my phone.
"10? 10!!!! “I'M LATE!!!” I yelled as I jumped out of my bed, almost tripping on the mountain of clothes in my room as I sprinted into the shower. I rushed out as fast as I could then grabbed my essentials and a bag. As I walked into the kitchen I could hear the sizzling of the stove top cooking something delicious for breakfast. The smell of eggs and bacon filled the room with a heavenly scent.
“Adios mama!!” I said waving goodbye as I reached for the door.
“¿ A dónde vas ahora? Y no comiste desayuno?” she responded back.
“ I'll eat later, don't worry, I'm gonna hang out with CD and RB. I'll be home soon te amo” I yelled as I pulled myself away from the kitchen and the amazing food my mom was making and closed the door behind me. I hopped on my bike and started pedaling torwars RB’s place. I started biking down the streets of my neighborhood and down the trails to RB’s place to the crosswalk. As I kept getting closer to his house I could feel the dew of the morning and the cold of winter soon ending. My phone started ringing outta my pocket so I stopped at the side of the trail and picked up the call.
“ Yo,” I said, trying not to sound tired from biking hard.
“What's up with you?” he responded.
“ Oh hey RB” I said, recognizing the voice on the phone.
“You finally got up,” he said, chuckling.
“Yeah my bad, I'm on my way now. I think I'm two blocks out” I said apologetically.
“ K the whole gang's here. We’re just waiting on you. So when you’re ready, we’ll leave.”
''Got it,” I said as I hung up the phone.
I pedaled harder again trying to get there as soon as possible since the crew was waiting for me. I made it to his place at a record breaking time of 3 minutes. I put my bike down in the driveway and went to the front door to come in. As I knocked on the door my hand got cut, probably because it was old and wooden.
“It's like punching sandpaper,” I thought.
RB swung the door open and welcomed me in and on the couch of his living room were my friends. CD and RB’s lil brother watching morning cartoons. I said my hellos to my friends then I sat down on the couch. I pulled out the stencils they asked me to cut out for them and placed them on the coffee table in front of us to see. “This is the moment I've been waiting for,” was the only thing I could think of as they stared in awe at my creations. Then RB and CB got up.
“ So y’all remember the abandoned building we found last year?” said CD.
“Yeah, that big concrete building in the forest?” I said with a grin.
“Well apparently we didn't finish exploring it because there's a huge area with about 6-7 more buildings we can check out!” RB said.
As soon as I heard this, I got excited and went to pack my bag immediately. Quickly grabbing some rags, spray cans, a couple of stencils, and other essentials, I hastily crammed them in my backpack and ran to hop on my bike along with the others. Since I hadn't had breakfast we stopped at a gas station and grabbed some rice krispies and some drinks for breakfast. After fueling up on the sweet mashmallowy goodness of rice krispies and a can of a fruit punch Arizona we kept biking to the bike trail. As we kept biking we went under a busy bridge. As we passed we could hear the echoes of the tires and honking of the midday traffic. Further up ahead was a roundabout that we had to cross which was a breeze since a car let us pass. Then we took a right onto a trail into the woods down a little hill by the dmv and up a big hill. Then we all paused and looked at each other and nodded.
“We puttin them in the same place as last time?” I said pointing at my bike.
RB looked around for a hint of people and said “ naw we gonna put them in the ditch with some covers cuz cops have been stalking the place lately”
“Sounds good,” the group said.
We put our bikes in the ditch and covered it with a bunch of branches and leaves then started walking down the trail until we met the first building. The building was made completely out of concrete and was a rectangle. The concrete building had a big opening in the middle that looked like 2 doors that had been ripped off by looters. The whole building was massive and was surrounded by a wire fence but was ripped and broken at multiple points of the chains. Inside didnt look any better either with the ceiling concaving on itself and a bunch of rubble from the surrounding parts of the building wearing down from the weather and people trying to collapse the place. There were some rooms left behind but most were completely destroyed or the walls were lined with graffiti. If you stepped in you could hear the sound of a dribble of droplets coming down from the cracks in the ceiling. Now this wasn't the building we were here for. The ones we were here for were towards the back near what we called the “school” . the “gun factory” , and the “garages,” which we went to explore and tag.we started with the school then with the gun factory then finally the garage. We had explored this place for a while and finally got to the garage where there were 3 garages lined up in a row. They were brick buildings with a garage door in the back with locks and a stairs up to the doors. CD took the lead for the garages and pulled out a chain snapper.
Before he could do it I yelled “HEY!! Dude its open they didn't lock this one!!”
“Sweet no trespassing charges!” he said with a smile.
As I pushed up the door the dust came off. You could smell the dampness of the floor and cardboard pieces scattered on the floor mushed up by the humidity of the cold. We found a perfectly clean wall to put our sketches on. It was our canvas and we decided to draw whatever we could. After a while I decided to chill out and take some pictures of what we had done but out of nowhere we heard a loud booming voice from behind the garage door.
“COME OUT WE KNOW YOU GUYS ARE IN THERE!” the people yelled.
CD whispered to RB “ hide the cans in the corner and take the tops off,”
“Get the stencils and Lucas pack up your sh*t we’re going out the back door” RB whispered.
So we did just that and packed up the best we could and sneaked out the back . As they began to bang again we opened the back door and bolted around. We could see the people in the front. It's two military men with guns and uniforms. Holy sh*t we are not staying here I thought to myself and I tapped RB’s arm and pointed a route to our bikes where they couldn't see us. CD being a ballsy mf realized that they were our age and he thought he could smoothly talk them into getting us out of trouble. Me and RB being not dumb let him try his idiotic idea and ran our route while he tried his move. RB and I ran as fast as I could until my lungs burned. We finally got to our bikes and waited for the CD and ended up waiting 30 minutes and somehow he got away. While he told us the story about how he heroically let us leave and stopped the military. All I could think of was how lucky we were that we didn't get caught. I ended up not going there anymore after that incident since I learned that I shouldn't go to places like that looking for trouble.
