My trip to Somalia
To better understand this story I will have to go back to November 13, 2009, my parents were watching the iconic movie 2012, and after seeing the ending of the movie where only Africa survives. My mom gets excited and talks with my aunt about the movie. I don't know what went down in that conversation but when she got off the phone my mom decided to take us to Somalia to learn more about our heritage. Now that you are all caught up on everything let's get right into the story.
Fast forward to June first, 2012, and my family is in an African airport, the muqdisho airport to be exact. We are getting picked up by my uncle and getting dropped off at one of our family homes turns out we will be living with my grandparents for the 2 months we are supposed to be here it was a pleasant trip then it comes, the end of my summer break. we start getting ready to head back to America. But before that as a goodbye gift, my grandparents took us all over the country to see all the beautiful places in Somalia. 1 week before we are supposed to leave my mom to decide to break the news to me and my sibling they won't be taking us back home. My dad who stayed back in America because of work found out that we can just re-do any school that grade we miss. With this knowledge in mind my mom took my sister home and left us, three brothers, in Somalia.
So now that you know how I got in this situation let's get into the good stuff. Since Somalia is a Muslim country the Aden (call for prayer) is heard throughout the city by a speaker system and it reminds us to do our five daily prayers. One day my older brother signed up to make aden for the city. so my brother my cousin (really my uncle but he was around our age so we called him cousin) and I got ready to go to the mosque. After we got there everything was going good and on our way back my cousin decided it would be a good idea to watch a soccer tournament live so he dipped the problem is that we did not know our way back and got lost. After a while my brother saw the house and went running towards it but he ended up stepping on a big pointy rod sticking out the ground and it implied his foot at me and some of his friends that we met on the way carried him home.
Fast forward a couple more months me and my younger brother got really sick Were in and out of the hospital. My younger brother was worse than I was I could move around somewhat but he could not at all because he was so malnourished. My older brother's foot was healing slowly and on top of everything a war that broke out a couple of years before we got there was heating up.at first it was just a skirmish between two little tribes but then it escalated to the point where it now included all the major tribes. After hearing all about this for months my parents decided it was a good idea to bring us home after 1.5 to 2 years. And that is why I believe that you should consider all contributing factors before making a drastic decision.
