Pet Peeve
Being at school already bothers me enough. So when I am walking in the hall, going to a class, I already don’t want to be at and the person who is walking in front of me is walking at a snail's pace; there is nothing that bothers me more. It takes all of my energy not to tap them on the back and politely ask “Could you please for the love of God just walk a little bit faster?” Of course I wouldn’t want to be rude and some people don’t even notice that they are doing it. In my mind, someone who walks slow is like a hang-nail on your finger, you try to do everything you can to get it out without just ripping it off, but it won’t budge. I try with all my might to walk around, or try and walk slower but nothing works. Sometimes I think to myself, Am I really walking that fast? Does everyone walk this slow? But then I think, if everyone walked that slow there wouldn’t be such a thing as a slow walker.
I feel that walking slow really describes someone as who they are. In general, they probably are a slow person and tend to do everything at their own pace. A slow walker turns into a slow driver and a slow writer and someone who takes forever to get ready in the morning and someone who is always the last one out the door. Slow walkers have engraved a place in my heart, some of my closest friends are slow walkers and yelling at them to catch up or just leaving them behind doesn’t bother me because half the time I swear they walk slow just to make me mad.
The reason I think I walk fast is because I grew up with a mom who used to live in New York and she always told us to walk fast and be on time. In the airports or out the door on the way to school, my mom was always screaming “let’s go” and “we can’t be late.” As we got older, it seems that my siblings and I are yelling at her to get going and speed things up a bit but that is who we learned it from. Although slow walking really grinds my gears, compared to the world, it is a trivial problem and there isn’t much we can do about it, telling someone to walk faster would only make them feel worse about themselves and then just make me feel rude and disrespectful.
