Lake Day
I woke up in the morning, the sun shining in my face, ready for an amazing day ahead of me. As I walked out of my room, I saw my dad packing for the boat. He told me he was leaving right away to pick out a boat to use for the day. Mom had already left for work, so she was going to meet us later on. Immediately after he left, my phone buzzed with a text from my best friend Lauren:
“Hey, I am on my way.”
I quickly ran into my room to get dressed. I threw on my pink polka dot swimsuit and waited for Lauren to arrive. We decided to take my car, and I made her drive. We opened up the sunroof, rolled down all the windows, turned the radio up to full volume, and headed to Pewaukee Beach. The wind blew our hair, and we screamed the lyrics to every song that came on. When we arrived at the beach, we went to go meet my dad. In the distance, I saw my little brother who had brought three of his friends with him. I was annoyed. Lauren and I hopped on the boat and the rental worker pushed us out onto the lake and we headed out. We cruised around for a little while, the wind blowing in my hair and some water splashing in my face. I looked over and my brother and his friends were laughing while eating snacks and my dad was just chilling while driving the boat. Lauren and I sat on the boat relaxing and tanning. When we arrived in a secluded area of the lake with big open water, we stopped the boat. My dad put the boat in the park and took out the tube.
“Who wants to go first?” he asked.
I knew there was no use fighting with my brother, so he and his friends took turns going two at a time, gliding through the water. The cold water was splashing in their face. They were constantly falling off of the tube because they kept wrestling each other on it. Finally, my dad stopped the boat. It was Lauren and I’s turn. We put on our life vests, jumped in the water, and got on top of the tube. We settled in, arms crossed over each other, so it was easier to hold on and gave my dad the signal to go. The first few minutes weren’t so bad; we were gliding through the water at a good speed, only a small amount of water splashed in our face. Then my dad sped up. Lauren and I held on tight as we got whipped by the boat. Our heads were moving back and forth and our bodies wiggled around. So much water was splashing in our faces that we couldn’t even open our eyes. Neither of us could see a thing, which made the whole experience even better. Dad turned the boat left and then right and then left again. We flew back and forth like ping pong balls. And, I lost my grip.
I didn’t have enough room on the tube to grab the handle so I yelled, “Lauren, move over; I need to grab the handle!”
She laughed and I fell off of the tube. The boat immediately stopped. My dad turned around and came to get me. I was sitting in the water like a buoy with my hand in the air so boats would see me. Lauren and I got back on the boat and sailed off to meet my mom. My mom was waiting at the dock with pizza in her hands for dinner. We helped her onto the boat, opened the box, and dug in. The pizza was delicious. When I bit into it, the cheese melted in my mouth. We cruised around for a bit while we ate and then went tubing again.
“Lauren and I are going first,” I yelled to my brother.
“No, Connor and I are going first,” my brother yelled back.
After fighting for a while, I let my brother go first. After he got off, Lauren and I put our life jackets on again and got on the tube. This time my dad started out going fast. After only a couple of minutes, Lauren and I both lost our grip and flew in the air. The tube went with us and we both splashed into the water, the tube following right after. My back ached after that, so Lauren and I stopped tubing. My brother pulled the tube in, docking at a sandbar. My brother and his friends swam around for a while, and Lauren and I took photos. We took timer pictures of us jumping into the cold water and selfies of us sitting on the boat. The orange and yellow sun started to set, making the sky a beautiful color of yellow, orange, blue, and purple, so my brother and his friends hopped onto the boat and we sailed back to the dock. We docked the boat, took everything off, and loaded my dad’s car up. Lauren and I got into my car and drove away the same way we drove there: the sunroof open, windows down, and music blasting. What a great way to end an amazing day.
