March 13th, 2020, was the weirdest day of school that I’ve ever had. Mya and I walked out that day knowing we weren’t going back. With the pandemic, there was no way. When Mya and I reached my car to leave I was informed I would be moving to my Mom’s, At this point, I had three days to see as many people as I could before I left. My first choice was Mya, my best friend of two years, my ride-or-die, my sister from another mister— all of it. I knew I wanted to see her before I left.

Driving to Mya’s house felt like a scene in a movie— 20 minutes of loud music playing, wondering where life is going to go from here. We found a Petco and made dog tags that we used as a symbol of our friendship; it was important to us and still is to this day. After we left Petco, the night fell to pieces. We went to Taco Bell, I know, how could a trip to Taco Bell ruin a whole night? Well, let me tell you.  This was an old, rundown Taco Bell on County Line Road in Germantown. The whole experience was sketchy, but we got our food and left as quickly as we could. Happy that we were out of there, we ended up going to Menards to see friends who worked there. In those following hours, Mya and I went to different stores and while we were out I would go to buy clothes, music, new vinyls, but I told myself that with the move, I didn't need any more belongings to take with me. As the night went on we were driving around, we knew that we wouldn’t see each other for awhile. We were driving on Highway 60, blasting 2000’s rap music with the windows down screaming all the lyrics. All of a sudden I got a notification for $1.00. I didn't think too much of it, I thought that maybe my gas from earlier in the day was going through now. Twenty minutes later ,I got another notification for almost $190.00. I didn’t know what to do, I knew I didn’t make that transaction because I was sitting in the passenger seat of a car, driving on a back road in the middle of Hartford. I frantically grabbed my wallet to realize that my debit card was not in there. I went into full panic mode. I can say for sure that I’ve never dealt with that in my life, so I genuinely didn’t know how to react or what to do. I froze my card, and my body froze with it. I didn’t know who would’ve taken it, where it would've been taken, why they would. I was terrified. I was calling my dad, my mom, my step-mom; I didn't know what to do. I can say now, this was an interesting experience that I didn’t think I’d go through. The next day I did many firsts, went into a police department, made a police report, talked to my bank clerk and not about “how school is going.” The whole time I was terrified, but Mya and I were laughing our way through it. It went as far as crying in a hospital parking lot. March 15th, 2020. When I told myself I wanted to see as many people as possible, I didn't mean the Germantown Police. All I ask is that you do me a favor, avoid the Taco Bell on County Line Road.
