A Drive Through Christmas
I caught a glimpse of the chilly air as I opened the garage door. Puffy white snowflakes floated past as I started my car. I pulled my soft sweater over my hands as I cranked the heat. It felt as if time was moving in slow motion as the snowflakes fell so gracefully. As I turned the wheel to inch out of my garage, I carefully adjusted the volume and began playing my music. This playlist is only good during that one time of the year, I thought. Jingle Bell Rock filled my ears as I began driving to. The vibrant green and red strings of lights glowed as the snow landed passed them softly.
I continued driving down the beautiful snow kissed trees as Winter Wonderland began to play. “Sleigh bells ring, are you listening?” my car echoed. The roofs of the houses had perfectly pointy ice sickles that dripped every so slightly. The peppermint smell from my air freshener filled my car as the heat began to blast. I spotted a family of lopsided snow men in someone’s front yard. I thought about how cool it would be if Frosty the Snowman were a true story. Maybe the snowmen would actually be rounded and stand up straight if they came to life at any given moment, I pondered.
Ding! Ding! Ding! The song It’s The Most Wonderful Time of The Year began to play. I glance down at the GPS to notice I only have to drive for ten more minutes. The snowflakes danced through the cars and laid on the roads. 9 minutes left of driving. I smiled as I saw a family sledding down the hill going so slowly yet having so much fun. Ice skaters glided across the pond putting all their trust into the frozen over water. 8 minutes.
Rocking Around The Christmas Tree lifted away any negative energy I had inside of me. As I drove through downtown I saw beautiful bushy evergreen trees laced with snow and covered in ornaments. Each ornament is different from the others. The yellow christmas lights wrapped around all the way to the top followed by a big shiny star. I could barely see the star as it was so high in the air. Families everywhere gathered by the tree taking pictures smiling big with their red noses. 5 minutes left.
I slid through the icy roads and passed the outdoor mall which was glowing with red and green. The elegant decorations overflowed the store's doors and put smiles on the children's faces. It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas echoed in my car as I continued my drive.
Beep! Beep! Beep! What song is this? I thought to myself. A fourth beep jolted me awake. After all, it was 90 degrees and sunny. Christmas would get here soon enough—but a kid can dream.
