My family is a big family consisting of a mother a father four daughters and a son. I am the oldest daughter and therefore have seen all of them grow.My parents are immigrants and came to this country around sixteen years ago and since have never gone back to their home. A picture is worth a thousand words is something I have heard before. Sometimes I wonder what else can convey a thousand words.Hands I think can tell a story, and yes it might sound weird but I have learned  that our hands change day to day ,from when we are born to when we are adults, often they show what we might do on a daily basis.

Recently my mother gave birth to her first son Oliver his hands are very small . There is nothing to tarnish them yet they are smooth and delicate with no marks or roughness to them, not much to see yet, he has nothing to say about this world, except that it is immense. His hands say that he is new to this place and he has to discover it.

The youngest of the daughters is Nadia she is 5 years old,Her hands are small  they already have a few scars here and there. They have scars from when she decided that she wanted to climb a tree and scratched herself, from when she fed the chihuahua and it scratched her, when she decided that the cat wanted her to pick it up and believe me it did not. Occasionally she has bug bites from when she goes outside and a mosquito or ant bites her. Her hands say that she is a little girl learning about this world mostly through mischief and crazy adventures and she has yet to grow.

Jasmine is the second youngest at 10 years old and she is a dare devil. Her hands are slightly smaller than mine but definitely bigger than Nadia’s. Her hands have scars from playing in the trees and jumping off of things. she loves to rock climb and you can see that in her hands. She also has a small marking from when she accidently poked herself with a pencil. Her hands show that even though they are big they still have space to grow and that she is still learning about this world.

Leslie is the second oldest she is 12 years old and her hands are as large as mine. They have developed a red mark from when she grips her pencil in math and scratches that she gets when she is playing with the cat. She has long nails that every now and then are painted over with nail polish. She usually has writing all over her hands from when she gets bored and distracts herself by drawing and one or two paper cuts that she obtained while reading .Her hands show that over the years she has learned how to hold a pencil(at one point she couldn’t) and that she has become a creative person someone who likes to spend her time drawing.

I am the oldest , my hands are not that big compared to others but over the years I have started to develop calluses from playing the violin and the guitar. One hand always has longer nails than the other and I have a couple of lunares on my hand. I sometimes have paper cuts from when I read and accidentally cut my hand off the edge of a paper. On my hands I have very small scars from when ,my eczema gets bad.My hands show that even though I am still young I have grown a lot .

My mom's hands are marred with scars from times when she has accidentally cut herself in the kitchen from when she was cooking and the oil splashed her slightly leaving a scar behind, they are the hands that are always moving never stopping .They are older weathered gone through so many things and she still has many more to go through.

My father's hands are big and rough with scars and marks from the years that he has spent working hour after hour to provide a better future for us. They are old and roughed up so that his children’s hands don’t have to be.They are sometimes dirty from hours spent fixing the car or from working at a construction site. They have gone from the hands of a young man to the hands of a hard working father of five.

The hands of a person can tell you many things from what a person might do on a daily basis to what they might have done years ago. However there are things that they might not be able to tell you for example you can see that my mom cooks but you don’t know what a great cook she is, You can see the scars on a person but you might not know what happened. The hands of a person gives you a piece of information about them but they don’t give you the whole picture. They give you a part of a story but not the full story.
