Teenage Oppression
I have a job at a tire company, Discount tire. I am certified, and proficient in every aspect of my job. Every once and awhile when I am working on a car, the owner of the car will stand over me as I am taking the wheel of the car on and off. This can be quite frustrating because I get self conscious. Am I going to mess up, will they make a big deal about something just to get some money back? When these questions are going through my head, I slow down and try to be as careful and throw efficiency out of the window. When I do that my team captain will tell me that I need to move faster. This all loops around until I finish with the car.
This is all because I am a teenager. Nobody trusts us to perform even the simplest tasks. They watch us and wait for us to mess up, so they can yell at us and feel in powered. Even political members and candidates trying to get into whatever political position, they don’t focus on the teenage demographic. We are the next generation and we want a say in what our state, country, and the world is going to be like. If political members and candidates focused on the 18 - 24 year old voting bracket it could bring some major changes to the way our government operated. Yet, they don’t. It has become a normal thing to oppress and neglect teens, even teens have gotten used to the way the world works. It shouldn’t have to be like that. Teenagers are just used to the oppression now that it’s just how the world operates, and something to complain about. Just apart of life. If it’s apart of life, then when they grow up they will have children who will eventually become teens. They will hear the same complaints that they told their parents, thus give the same response. It’s apart of life. It shouldn’t be apart of life. It’s not that I’m a teen complaining that adults don’t treat me as equals, I want to see incredible change. The world doesn’t know what it’s like to have a large population of teens having a voice. Sence teens are connected to the internet like it is a vital organ, they are up to date with all of the worlds problems. Most teens are livid, they make movements, they campaign, they help out in their community. But they hardly get recognition, and if they do it’s just another story in the news. That is not ok.
Knowing what problems plague our state, country, world we can find new ways to come up with solutions to better our home and problems around us. We learn about these problems every day, because we go to school. We aren’t given the ability to make change because nobody before us has made a change. Because we teens are not trusted, and that is what’s so sad about it all. Many teens have strong ideas and ambitions that would change the world we live in for the better.
If adults can’t trust us with shaping our world for the better, then the least they could do would to trust me with their car. If I can get their car done fast enough they can go home in roughly 30 minutes, depending on what they are having us do. If I can get through cars fast then we can service more cars, then that means more sales for the company. The more sales I get for the company the higher chance I’ll get a raise. If and when I get a raise, I will be more motivated to go to work. If I am more motivated to go to work, then your cars will be serviced faster. It all comes back to trust, if you trust me then I can perform to my max ability. If you trust us, we can preform to our max ability.
