“No no no no no no” I say as I dash into my into my house, still hearing all of the laugher from the kids I was playing with outside. “ I thought it wouldn't it wouldn't break!” I say slowly starting to break down and cry still trying to fix it. About an hour later my mom comes home from work and sees that I’m upset. I know she knows I’ve been crying because she licks her thumb and wipes my dry tears. “What happened Jae?” she asks me, then I start to illustrate everything.

While playing outside with my friends and playing music on my phone that Aunt Samantha just gave me. I started chasing after one of my friends. Then my phone fell out of my pocket. “Jae, how did your phone not break? ” Lauren inquired. I may have mentioned that it was because my phone was the strongest phone in the world. “Uh huh keep going” my mom said slowly but sounding more curious about the story. “Ok” I said preparing myself  to continue the story. Lauren didn't believe me and told me to slam my phone on the ground. My mother had a look on her face. A face that was saying “ I'm not surprised, nor mad.” So I slammed it on the floor, and it was still on, no cracks or glitches. I assured her. Then that’s when Lauren said, “That wasn't even hard” so I slammed it again a little bit harder and it still didn't break. But again I heard the same comment “ That wasn't even hard,” so I slammed it a third time, then a fourth time harder and harder each time, and still no cracks. Then I bragged to her and said, “See, I told you, Lauren” and started to walk away to continue playing with the other kids when Lauren's brother said “That still wasn't even that hard. I bet she's not even strong.” That's when my nerves worked up and I threw my phone as hard as I could. I slowly picked up my phone knowing that I threw it hard that time and when I picked it up and turned it around the glass was shattered and the screen was glitchy. “No no no no no,” I said as I flew into the house.

“Jae’Anna, why would you do that?” My mom asked with a disappointing tone in her voice.

“It was because I wanted to show everyone that my phone wouldn't break...

well now look at it.”

“See this is why you don't need a phone at the age of ten; you know, I didn't get my first phone until I was 16 and had a job? Grandma refused to get me a phone. She always told me that if I wanted something when I started to get older that I’d have to get a job and get it my own self.”

 “No, I didn't know that”.

“You didn't have to do that; if they didn't believe you then that's on them.”

“ I know, but I just really didn't like it when James called me weak,” I replied.

“Well you don't have to prove yourself to anyone one, you hear me?  I want you to remember that.” I told her Ok then she took me to Byrne Dairy and got me good ice cream to make me feel better. And that day I learned that I shouldn't have to prove myself to anyone.
